Same. Connected to the internet to download game cart updates and it's offline again.

No but for paying some Games you need it
I have a Nintendo account, but I don't really see the point of using it as even my Mii doesn't show up on MK8D instead I have to create a new one... Or have an amiibo with it.

Edit: Never mind, forgot you need to pay to play online. lol

A very silly question... Can I play Mario Kart World Online and be safe from firmware updates or doing so could risk my Switch to update to a newer firmware (when released)?

In case anyone was wondering, I did the sd card update using the method people described of taking the card from the switch 1 and going to 'transfer screenshots' or whatever it was.

Later, I inserted an SD express card, and the switch 2 read it just fine without needing any further update. I am on day 1 firmware, 20.1.1.

i did the day 1 update, downloaded all the games and patches i wanted, did the update for microSD exFat support, and inserted a miceoSD express after. now its on airplane mode with the wifi settings deleted, so i will enjoy it as is and wait for an exploit to come one day. fingers crossed!

On S1 (prolly S2 as well) if there was no DNS set up to block Ninny servers, system updates downloaded in the background when online and you were given an option to update on launching any game.

In order to delete such update (and prompt) you had to boot into Recovery Mode and reboot the console.

Is the ExpressSD card locked once you install into a switch 2 and linked an account or can you insert into a second switch 2 to just to activate the port (rather then purchase another SD)? Thinking of updating second S2 to Day1+ExpressSD update as well instead of keeping on stock firmware.

I bought 2 x switch 2 and was unsure what to do in relation to the FW.
I planned on using one and keeping one sealed, I didn't even buy an Express card.
From recommendations, I went and purchased a SD Express card and updated both to day 1 + Express update.
I will continue to use the main one with the SD card and update as and when FWs get released, I do like MKW online :) Plus I have the extra 256GB that I'll probably never use, but nice to have.

I don't think it's a good idea keeping any switch on 19.0.0 at this point. When the next FW gets released by Ninty, You'll never be able to go to 20.1.1 which I believe will be the FW to have.

Obviously pure speculation, but you don't want to have a S2 with no SD Express support, which has been made available on the 20.1.1 FW.

Just my £0.02

Did you add your Nintendo account to both units? If so, sounds like you can use one Express card to update both rather then purchase two Express cards?

Someone on Reddit mentioned that there's a very small chance an exploit could be discovered during the initial boot of a system that has never been updated. Not sure how valid that is, and also not sure what good that would do if you can't use an SD card since you needed one for S1 hacks.

My thoughts are that 20.1.1 will be useful since we'd be able to load S1 games and/or use the microsd express card to load files. With stock 19.0.0 you wouldn't be able to load games or use a microsd card, seems worse to me. I also don't see what would have been patched from 19.0.0 to 20.1.1 since there aren't any known exploits right now so I doubt there would be something in 19.0.0 that would be blocked in 20.1.1. Either way there is no way of knowing, I just want to be able to enjoy the system while we wait and to me it makes more sense doing the day 1 patch + express card update, download some games and delete wifi settings/airplane mode.

If you even can’t use the express sd card, wouldn’t be advisable to do at least the first firmware update and then put it in airplane mode? I don’t think there will be an exploit unless you can’t use the sd card function and just leaving it now, you will need to update later to a higher firmware version…
