Ok, AT&T cut off my free access to binaries, allegedly due to the prevention of childporn. Anyway, I'm tired of torrents and am now willing to pay for service. But I don't know which one would be best. I'm a power user so Unlimited bandwidth is a must and speed must be decent, as in at least 5Mbps since my net tops out at 6Mbps. Any suggestions???

Giganews 24.99 per month unlimited. They are running a special for AT&T customers too, not sure what that's all about though. 240 day retention. 10 connections allowed, surely should be enough to max out your bandwith.

What's wrong with torrents anyway? no problem to max out an 10MBit connection (or faster) with torrents if you use good sites.

Newshosting 19.95 /mo with 20 connections allowed. I use their mid range 14.95 a month with 8 connections and get a consistent 1200Kbbs. 5 MB/s though? Well I dunno about that.

Lol that 5mbps is only arouund 500kbps so 1200 is good.

Also, when I was with ATT, dont know the max connections they allowed but I was only connected with 2 and still got max speed. Whats the advantage of a huge number of connections like 10 or 20?

Yeah brain fart over here. I read MB not Mb.

Newshosting should be sufficient.

*EDIT*
As far as number of connections goes, I would assume that they allow higher download speeds (up to your maximum of course) but I dont know that for sure until I upgrade to their better service

I am already able to get 5GB in just over an hour. Pretty decent compared to what Im used to. Ive downloaded 100 GB in about 3 days here.

Owing to nice exchange rates giganews is sorting me out quite nicely right now so a vote for them (240 days retention is awesome).

I never liked Usenet. I might give them another try but I doubt I will find it very plesent.

Also which program does everyone use to connect and download from the usenet site?

Altbinz is my program of choice these days. It pretty much does it all for me.
http://www.altbinz.net/

As for where to get the NZB files. Altbinz has a bunch in but

A selection of release sites and a torrent site as it has a good news/calender section. Naturally I can not link those here. Although the calender is a different matter: http://www.pogdesign.co.uk:6640/cat/
http://www.abgx.net/
http://rlsmonkey.com/
this site
advanscene + usual suspects.
Good for names (the obvious ones are not always used)

NZB making sites. I have not touched headers in quite some time.
binsearch, specifically this
http://www.binsearch.info/index.php?q=&amp...=&postdate=
nfo search and the wide range of groups are what draws me there.

newzleech
http://www.newzleech.com/
Wildcard searches are the main draw here and it searches some other groups by default.

alt.binaries.nl/beta.binaries.nl is worth having around.

binarchive/binobins is also good.

Usenetnews is brilliant for occasional users or those who don't want to download every single months. you basically buy blocks that never expire. you can purchase via paypal too which is brilliant.

Block size Cost/block

2 GB $ 2.00
5 GB $ 3.00
10 GB $ 5.00
20 GB $ 8.00
30 GB $ 10.00
50 GB $ 15.00
100 GB $ 24.00
200 GB $ 46.00
300 GB $ 66.00

I'm signed with Astraweb. (news.astraweb.com)

Why?

160 days retention
20 connections
SSL Enabled
only $14.95 per month, unlimited access.

I constantly top out at max speed with these guys too, at home hitting 1.7MB/sec and at work hitting 2.5MB sec steady.

Im using PowerUsenet, simply by the fact that they had some drive when i signed up. No download limits, i can easily max out my connection (25mbit), 6 connections and 125 days retention for 15 bucks a month. Astraweb seems like a nicer deal though.

Usenetserver.com

I love their customer service. Its top notch. Highest monthly plan is 17.95 20connection SSL, 105+ day retention.

$14.95 for 10connections. Their 3 month plan is great too.
