I want a good media player that has a nice skin and is easy to use. I don't want something that is bland and just has a SEARCH FOR MEDIA button. I want something kind of like PwnPlayer or the iPod app. (I don't want dTunes)

I have a 1G, so I can't use vlc4iphone or whatever.

I'm on a 3GS and even I can't use VLC because they upped the firmware requirement to 3.2+, while I'm on 3.1.3. Friggin annoying but whatever.

You could give Mplayer a try. It's rather buggy and I usually have to use SBSettings to force it to exit, but it's the only other option I can think of.

If you don't mind paying for something a little extra you could get ifile it works as a video player for ipod and it also allows you to browse the file system i don't know if it works on 1g ipods but it should.

iFile will only play video files the iPhone already natively supports, which is essentially just MP4 files. Thus, for any unconverted videos, something like VLC or MPlayer is your only option.

you can also try FindFile. same as iFile.
also a file manager/viewer. it can play mp4, m4v,mp3 files.
