I have a Mariko (xkw) v2 switch and i always hack everything i get and i don't knew switches could be patched. I looked a long time for ways to hack it and also modchips but there's never enough information.
So what i really want to ask is do the hwfly v3 or v4 is worth it on a Mariko with the newest updates? Do the v3 ( and v4) work with the updates etc so i could buy one (maybe there's other new modchips tho 😶) i hope you have good arguments and specs on it to tell me 😊

I am fairly certain the "version numbers" of these modchips are mostly just minor board revisions or the different form factors for different console models.

Aside from the different shapes needed to fit in the different versions of the console most of it is just marketing.

The chips all do the same thing when installed, afaik

Will it work if I don't update it?
Any version of the hwfly should work on Mariko. The only real reason to update the chips is if you have an Oled model because older chips might ship with an outdated bootloader that can damage Oled hardware.

Edit: Depending on the chip version it should be possible to update it with a debug cable anyway without a programmer. The OG SX chips used to ship with debug cables but I'm unsure if the hwfly chips do.

You can upgrade hwfly core v4 with USB cable (I did it while the chip was soldered on the switch).

Instructions here:
github -> hwfly-nx/firmware
(I am not allowed to post link)

Say that you own a v2 switch and can't find anything else other than a v4 hwfly chip, would it still function once installed despite the switch not being oled?
There are tons of V4 HWFLY chips for the V2 Switch on Aliexpress for < $80. Read the description to make sure it works for your Mariko/V2 and then read the reviews to make sure they have enough happy customers and you’re all set.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150

Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
