The best is the 590, however its not stable, GTX 580 is the best Single GPU card, its around 480$

Assuming you have GOBS AND GOBS of money the AMD HD 6990 is the fastest card period. But that assumes you want to spend $750 on a video card!!!
Otherwise choose your budget range and go with their recommendation.

What is your monitors screen size?
GTX 560 Ti is a great card for entry level people.
If you want to go for SLI 2xGTX 560 Ti is also a great option.
Or you can go for the GTX 590, which is very expensive though.

The Sims 3 runs on my ATI Radeon x300 with the settings turned all the way down.
(I'm not saying get this because it's a very, very old card, just saying you don't need a very good graphics card to run it)

If you're talking about, like, Assassins Creed, or Portal, I'd say 6850. I have two of them (ASUS), when I had only one I already played every latest-gen game on a full HD screen. I could almost play Crysis 1 on the highest settings. So I guess on a lower resolution, you should be perfectly fine with that. And besides, the 6850 is pretty cheap (compared to others that is).

im using a pair of 6990 in crossfire (x2 6970 says on each package) and no games give me any issues atho its a power hog lol if sims 3 is all youre playing then that is runing on my bedroom pc on a 5970 which is cheap as hell atm (I bought it to replace a faulty 295GX on my old pc that became the bedroom pc) I got it around 1 year ago for 88 bucks on sale at Compusa

As for the performances, both 6950 and 560 Ti performs similarly and cost around 250-260$ us, while the 6850 is around 170$
Unless you were talking about the 560 (not the Ti version) wich performs pretty much like a 6870 and are about the same price ( 190-200$).
twice in the last month amazon has had the powercolor 6950 1GB GPU for $180 w/ free shipping. Mine arrived last week. I'm not saying it will come back, but it happened twice and I don't think there were any cancelllations. I would recommend the Sapphire extreme 5850. It's a revamped older card, but has the best price to performance of anything out there and should do well in a dual setup. If you care about physx, maybe go with a 460, another older card, but they are regularly available for under $100.
I've seen a lot of deals on 460's, 470's, 560's 6850's, 6870's recently. Some of them have expensive coolers added to the reference design so they can be overclocked much higher but aren't priced at so much of a premium. Considering your resolution, I would stick to something under $150 for sure (unless it's a great deal like the 6950). heck I would rather get a 460 and a new monitor if i were you than get a high end GPU. Finally, check your PSU. My last computer had a 350W PSU, which barely supported my addition of a GT 240. For most of the cards mentioned in this thread, youll probably need a 450W PSU.
