Hacking Best firmware for Rebug SwitchMe?

I've had my switch in the drawer for quite a while, but now I'd like to bring it up to date.
It seems that there is no updated U2F for the latest hekate on SwitchMe GitHub page. Should I use something else instead?
If I understand correctly, there seems to be new firmwares that boots whatever payload it will find on the SD-card and thus the firmware won't need updating when a new payload is released.
Has anyone tested this on SwitchMe? Can you share a working U2F file? Any recommendations would be really helpful!

mattytrog's software from the pinned threads is great for this, works perfect on SwitchMe.

Thanks! Could you briefly explain the difference between part 1 and part 2? Do I need both?
Will it work even without the volume buttons connected to the modchip? I never cared to install those wires..
