I’m trying pretty hard to play Chrono Trigger on the 3DS but I’m running into issues with both versions. The DS version is EXTREMELY hard to read if not in pixel perfect mode. While the SNES version is fine, It lacks the updated translations. I’ve tinkered with TWmenu and all kinda of nonsense I’m tempted to just spend the 5 bucks to play it on IOS with the backbone controller. At least then I can go between my phone and ipad. But seeing as this is the ONLY game I can’t seem to enjoy on my 3ds I’m wondering how others have decide to play it

Homebrew hero Sono has made a utility to change the way the DS image is scaled to the 3DS's slightly larger resolution screen: https://gbatemp.net/threads/twpatcher-ds-i-mode-screen-filters-and-patches.542694/

Nintendo's original scaling blurs the image as it's uniformly stretching 4 pixels of image into 5 on the screen so no pixels are not being averaged. If you find the blurring annoying, you can have options that just double pixel 4, or ones that show all the original pixels but blend the pixels either side of the gap to make the 5th one (this is what I use). This has the advantage of the image being crisp, but the disadvantage that the picture is distorted.

I thought I mentioned that but I see I said TwMenu instead of patcher. My bad. But the text in ONLY this game (for me at least) remains so hard to read and ugly that it’s ruins the experience no matter what filter I use. Every other text heavy game like the Layton games and even brain age I have zero issue with. I think it’s just the fact that they used a garbage font (I’m finding lots of people hate it) that is too small and only a pixel thick at any point.
