That's odd. The game has been freeware for years, ever since they added support for the Broken Sword games in ScummVM. At the same time they added support for Beneath a Steel Sky, and distributed it freely. Seems Kotaku is a bit out of the loop here.
 
ha ha..fuck the ESA i play ANY GAME when ever i want...the ESA can suck my **** as far as i care about legality..if i want to p lay Full Throttle NOW. i will...no company will say "That game is protected"..
