Have you got Malwarebytes? Try scanning it with that, and ad-aware. Scan it with every fucker!. Avast is good too, but I heard AVG is..

I take it with Virgin Media you get the channels too?
Can you not just cancel Virgin and get normal internet and phone bills with just freeview?
My bill is actually only £25 (not over £30, like I said before) for unlim. broadband (fast) and the house phone.

Are you keeping it because your Dad wants it for his amusement while he sits around the house? (can't stand it when people who don't work because of their health and yet they smoke their guts out.. it's taking the piss. Plus - smoking's grim anyway) and your Dad won't quit either? It's a shame, as that accumulates a lot of money, tell him to stop smoking, then his money could be more sensibly used to pay for his OWN house bills... of course that'll go on deaf ears.

I can't use any programs except Internet Explorer, WinRAR, VCL media player, and AbiWord. Anything else, regardless of source, gives me an error message saying there's a Windows 32 DLL file not found. This happens with any .exe file. Even ones I download from the net. So I can't download anything to help. I can access System Restore via Safe Mode, but it makes no difference, regardless of how far I rewind the settings. I find it strange that this virus should attack my system and totally devastate Windows, but leave the four programs I use on a regular basis totally unaffected.

I just get my mobile phone and broadband for that £52. The broadband comes to about £28.50 for 30MB wireless, the phone's about another £23.50 plus any calls I make outside my package. For a Galaxy S it was a great deal at the time. I have to call Virgin Media later, might ask if I can alter my package as with my netbook badly damaged I don't need 30MB broadband any more, and on average I use about 20% of my call and net allowance on my phone. Seems like a waste of money to be honest.

And yes, my dad's a wanker. He continues to whine about how I mess everything up. Like his life is a grand sweeping story of eternal success. He left school with no qualifications at all, bounced from building site to building site for decades, normally sacked for punching his boss in the face for whatever reason. Every relationship he's ever been in has fallen apart because he was never around, either for work or just outright vanishing. He's abandoned every single of of his children at some point, and we all hate him for it. He's ruined my life at every possible opportunity. Every decision he ever made led us from bad to worse. He's simply the worst person I know. He's now content to make my life even more trouble than it needs to be. My netbook, my life-line and instrument to continue my plans towards getting a career, is badly damaged. Irrepairable, perhaps. And how does he 'help'? By demanding money off me that I don't even owe him. Money I really should use to repair or replace my netbook so I can continue my plans towards getting a career and from there to world domination.

...*sigh.*

You know your life is fucked up when it sounds like the plot of a movie... Good luck out there; if you can think of a way I can help, lemme know...

Your dad could easily chuck you out of the house m8, good luck finding a flat for £200 a month. Then throw in your gas and electricity, council tax, tv license, The list goes on. It sounds to me like your dad is keeping you from being in a homeless shelter. He does sound like a twat at times, Hey he could be worse.

I feel for you on the job front. The uk is in a complete mess atm when it comes to employment. I'm sure you will get something eventually then you can move out of that place you're in.

His dad will have to pay more money because he's staying there. If his dad is on sick benefit he wouldn't be paying rent but because him and his brother are in the house he will have to. It's the same with council tax, Unless he's being naughty and not claiming it. You don't know how it works over here as you're American.

That's if they are in a council house.

Don't try to justify being a jerk with the old 'freedom of speech' line. Common decency should be enough to make you remember that just because you can say or do something, it doesn't follow that you should. Bragging about your scholarship and looking down on everyone because you think you're doing so well? You might be doing well in your school life but in terms of your spirit you're the poorest person I've ever encountered. You have no idea how to act as a human being. So you can keep your precious scholarship. If facing hardships and paying my own way is what it takes to make sure I don't turn into a prick like you, then I welcome whatever the world has to throw at me.

Life isn't as kind to us all as it must have been to you. I do whatever I can to make it better for myself and the people I care about. People like you are the ones that make it worse. You sicken me. Everything about you makes me want to puke. And you yourself seem to have missed the point of this entire blog. I'm here venting my frustrations in a consequence free environment to calm myself down. How are you helping, exactly? Have you said anything helpful at all? No, you've bragged about your scholarship and how great your life is and made uninformed remarks about me, justifying your ignorance with your precious freedom of speech. You're not even on the same level as the rest of us. You're a pathetic immature child, thinking that you're free to be as offensive as you like. A troll, in short. Get back under your bridge. I'll waste no more time on you.
You are incredibly hypocritical and I really don't think you even realize it. I was only bragging about the scholarship because you had to make a point about how you've saved lives and how that apparently makes you a superior human being, so every thing you said to me about that you might as well have said to yourself. DeathStrudel isn't trolling. The word trolling is way overused and blown out of context! Omg someone doesn't agree with me, They must be trolling.(not aimed at blaze)

I actually agree with some points he's making but not all of them.

What a boring forum this would be if everyone agreed with each other.

Dad can't throw me out. I pay rent, I'm legally recognised as having paid that rent, therefore I have rights that he can't fight. He's tried before. Besides, I contribute more than I drain. Without my financial backing he cannot pay the rent and therefore he gets evicted. He's only on Job Seeker's Allowance, and our house is rented to us from a housing agency not affiliated with the housing association. So he still has bills to pay, his JSA doesn't even come close to covering it, especially when he spends it all on tobacco and PS3 games. What annoys me is that while he can't do the same work he used to due to his health, there's nothing stopping him getting other jobs aside from his own bone idleness. He sits around playing Tiger Woods all day, letting the whole house get fucked up, never does a damn thing. I don't think it's too much to ask that when I give him money to go shopping, he returns from the shops with more food than he started with. If that makes me unreasonable then colour me unreasonable, I'll wear the label with pride.

I spoke to a guy that does computer repairs nearby and he claims that the only way to fix my netbook is to format the hard drive completely. Restore it to factory condition with an external source to be certain of obliterating the virus, then re-installing Windows XP. He said it'd cost me £60. I'll leave it for now as the four programs that were in use when the viral attack disabled the system are the four that I use on a regular basis, and somehow being active at the time has protected them from change, as proven by me being able to type these words. Since I barely use any other programs it's not worth sinking £60 into repairs right now, but if the issue creates any further problems I'll have it done.

Just got in from work. I don't feel too good at all. Probably a by-product of working in what is essentially a giant tin can while we have a heat wave going on, and I have to wear my fleece because my work shirt got fucked up in the washing machine. My head is spinning, I'm not stable on my feet, my left eye is burning and irritated, my right side is painful, and I feel like I'm gonna throw up. Will probably be calling in sick in the morning if I don't recover overnight. Got myself some new clothes while I was there though. Couple of new Sergio Tachini t-shirts (they were £2.50 a throw), new jogging bottoms, and a new fleece jacket. Only paid about £13 for the lot so no great shakes. I love staff discount

Need to replace my necklace, it's taken a beating over the years and it just looks grotty and horrible now. Wish I had my old necklace back. Was solid silver, beautiful thing. Gotta get round to getting my patch sewn onto my jacket as well. Might use the last of my funds to sort those two out.

Pfft. I can run a format to clean out a computer and put it back like it was never virus'd(if you'll forgive my butchery of English there...) in my sleep. Anyone who will pay a 60 pound charge to do that, with all due respect, clearly has minimal knowledge of what 3 (free and legal) files on a USB stick and a step by step tutorial that even an intoxicated monkey (read: the morons who run things on this side of the pond) can do...

(not meant as an insult towards you, just that even for an idiot like me, formatting is easy and free with the correct files(tiny ones, too)

Ugh. My $.02 totally unrelated to the actual topic.

DeathStrudel may be somewhat harsh in his wording, but I'll be damned if it's trolling. The guy is actually giving some fairly solid advice, and backs up what he's said with life experience of his own. Then we get sergster1 up here who is probably bragging about taking college courses that any American high school student can take if they want to pay for it, trying to counteract DeathStrudel talking about how he got a scholarship because he tried and was smart enough to get it, that it wasn't luck or anything of the like.

I mean, damn. The guy wasn't being that harsh. As much as I love to sympathize, going through bad shit isn't exactly uncommon. I'm in a terrible situation, but I maintain straight A's and will make it a point to get my scholarship money for college that I deserve.

sergster1, just for you. You are fucking dumb. You misinterpreted everything that was said, were just flat out insulting, and showed a fairly low comprehension level in everything you read. You obviously just wanted to find something that you thought was a hole, but really, you look like the ass here, not DeathStrudel.

I don't mean to sound like I'm defending anybody, but I think unnecessary harshness is going around here. I can understand Blaze getting up in arms if he wants to, as the messages are directed at him, and he will interpret them the way he wants to. It is not the place of anybody else to jump in like a knight in shining armor to try to defend his honor or something. You can gang up all you like, but you'll just look like the bad person, not the person you're attacking.

@Nathan Drake: The so called advice of Death Strudel is not advice at all. You see, Blaze's life beyond his blogs is fuzzy at best. What we do know is that his old man is a lazy fuck, and his "Brother" is a cry baby and almost as lazy (I got that right?). Blaze himself does his best to make sure his bills are paid, and his roommates are semi comfortable fucks. His life has been really shitty, and it continues to be, and the things that DS is saying are unfounded and offensive. He doesn't know anything about Blaze and he continues to say how much he'll thank him for being harsh. Harsh advice isn't the best course of action here. It's offensive and unwelcome, and pointless to someone who is a unknown person 1000s of miles away. It's been made crystal clear, and he continues to ignore it.

Like I said, it's up to Blaze to interpret it as he will. I personally found some of the advice to be solid, and not totally outside the realm of possibility from the general picture drawn by all of the blogs I've read to date (which is pretty much all of them since I joined :3). I could see that DeathStrudel wasn't just trying to be a harsh asshole, and as I said, my life is far from desirable. That's my interpretation of it though. Blaze has been just as harsh back to DeathStrudel as he felt DeathStrudel was to him. The bystanders stepping in doing the white knight thing is unnecessary and need not be done.

This was mainly because if people think they need to act like sergster1 did, then it needs to be made clear that they themselves will look like the harsh asshole they make DeathStrudel out to be.

I actually agree with quite a lot of this. Blaze you're a nice guy and I've read a few of your blogs but DeathStrudel has a point. There's always more you can do to make your life better. Also, as someone (DeathStrudel?) said in one of their previous posts, you need to prioritise your money. Less on the phone bills and video games, more on going towards a better job / house or w/e.

So a guy can't keep himself busy every now and again? This stuff he's talking about isn't happening over night. They're planned purchases made only when he has money to spare. >.< People need something every now and again to pat themselves on the back. A sliver.... Wait, so if I read that all right, you're going to do what Boombox pointed out? At the very least, you should wait, not expedite those two "needs".
