I think they are going to end up using the next generation Tegra chip and fool the competition (who they say they are not competing with) into thinking that their system is going to be an Nvidia Shield and nothing more. The Shield can barely emulate the Gamecube so I highly doubt that Nintendo is going to settle upon current generation technology.

Current gen is better then previous gen :p

i hope its actually a cheap phone or you can put your sim card in it and use it as a phone
There are too many problems associated with that like licensinh and the cost need to get relatively low.

Nintendo has much more resource than private hackers, and arm dolphin is still somewhat broken at this point. Despite this, 5.0 should give some good boost(arm build?). And which shield are you talking about cause the handheld is very slow and x1 is twice as fast as the wii u.

Current gen tech runs much smoother and isnt it cheaper than last gen? i dont see it being last gen tech because it would piss everyone off, even the sony fanboys who are waiting for decent games.

I'm talking about the Shield unit for the TV that they sell at Best Buy and the like. The one currently in stores, not the one that has yet to be released.

Are you sure cause it is almost as fast as some four year old entry card.

Yes, I've been considering buying one and so I've been reading up on it and watching emulation tests that were uploaded on Youtube.

After having seen all that I saw I am convinced that I should hold out for the next generation of Shield, and also convinced that it would not be in Nintendo's best interest to go with the current hardware for if Gamecube emulation is can barely be done, then Wii emulation is certainly going to be a no go unless a LOT of optimizations were made to Nintendo's own emulation software, but then again I didn't see them do much more than the N64 emulation on the Wii can do.

In short, they are going to need their back catalog of titles to keep them going. People want the old as well as the new. As for the Wii U, I'm sure they won't have to emulate those titles and could simply just port them.

In that case would it not be wiser to port gamecube titles or make new entries?

I think it would be wiser to simply emulate them, then port and update only those that graduated with honors so to speak.

On that note, I'd LOVE to see Nintendo scoop up the rights to Eternal Darkness and bring that franchise back! Nintendo needs some Lovecraftian goodness! (I'm sorry, but your touch screen appears to be damaged...)

@fatsquirrel Just wait a sec, are you trolling on a non eof board?
Also pokemon is 18th, not tomorrow, and speculated Nintendo direct is 21st.

What I am getting is 40-60 frames with Dolphin 5.0 on shield and Nintendo should be able to optimize it further. Besides it's more likely to be tegra x2 which is slightly faster.

Ya, that's what I believe I'm talking about is the Tegra x2. That should do the trick I'd think.
