@zoogie has released the userland exploit with the beautiful name "Bannerbomb3" for the 3DS.

https://github.com/zoogie/Bannerbomb3/releases

This exploit uses a buffer overflow in the title of DSiWare Banner to dump the DS Internet Settings title. In these can then inject the Japanese version of Flipnote Studio, with the ultimate boot9strap can be installed and thus free custom firmware.

But you need your movable.sed for that. This is dumped with Seedminer, so we recommend that you follow 3ds.hacks.guide for a step-by-step guide.

Thanks for posting this.

Indeed, the exploit has recently been added to the guide so it's usable for the general public now.
(it isn't really intended to be used as a general-purpose userland exploit like steelhax).

All these great hackers not working on the Switch. Shame....

jk but seriously. Great work
Backlog wishlist for any devs still poking around the Wii U: break the 300 install title limit.
Make external drive seeds transferable to move the drive to other consoles. (especially for Brazil-only installs.)

Great to see new exploits.
This release makes me wish I still had my 3DS.

I'm irked because just 3 days ago I had to spend 50 cents in order to set up a NNID for my nephew's 2DS in order to download a free DSIware game.

I've been sitting on a 3DS for quite a while now because I haven't bothered to buy a flash cart, nor have I bothered to check since the magnet coldboot exploit came out. Does this mean I can now load CFW with no additional tools and I don't need a flash cart either?

there have been a couple of dsiware exploits that you have missed. They been there for over a year or so if your 3ds is able to use the ds properly.

This just goes to show that the 3DS is all but forgotten and there's still love for it.
Nothing short of amazing how these guys achieve such things. Who woulda guessed that there could be something as a free DSiHax exploit.
Didn't seem feasible at first glance but they pulled it off anyway.
Thanks @zoogie for your hard work and effort put into it.

Now that the 3DS is "dead", this news was enough to push me into learning how to install CFW. I did mine on a 3DS I had transferred from, so I wouldn't lose anything if I got bricked. Everything worked without issue. Bannerbomb3 is a convenient exploit! Not quite as easy as the Wii was due to movable.sed, but still.

Thanks for sharing this; I can't wait to learn how to make my own homebrew for it. (Isn't Godot Engine ported, or is being ported?) I doubt we'll be getting another system like this from Nintendo in the near future, so it's a great opportunity to explore this neat hardware. Dual screens still have a ton of use.
