ROM Hack Question Backing up savegame before installing CFW

I got a Switch for Christmas and have been playing Mario Odyssey for a few days. My jig arrives tomorrow and I plan on installing CFW. Will I be able to back up my Mario save game data and transfer it back to the system so I don't have to start over in the game? If I can, I assume the save file will work if I play the game via backup and not using the cartridge anymore? I do plan on making a backup of my nand before I do anything else, will that backup my save data? Sorry for the newb question. Can anyone give me quick rundown of what I need to do so I don't lose my game progress. Thanks

There is no way to back up saves without cfw, saves should work as long as the title id is the same as the game you are trying to use it with, and If you take a total nand backup it will include your saves as they are stored in the user partition
