Hacking back for some modding. been a while

I have a 2 tb hdd with PS3 games on it. I want to get back into playing gsm s on it. however I updated my last PS3 and sold it.
I want to get another PS3 what can I do. to hook this hdd nback to it and play games?
like what firmware is best. I think I'll buy a used PS3.

OFW 3.55 is best obviously but what matters is the model of the ps3 for downgrade purposes if need be.
