My friend just bought a new Wii for X mas and one of the things we where trying to avoid was the D3-2 drive so it can play DVDs.

We just bought one from tigerdirect.com and it was a wii with a Serial that started with LU388, and came with system menu 3.4. Bootmii still could only be installed as a IOS but it reads DVD-R disks just fine :3.

I have no idea if Wiis are hard to find without those drives yet and have no idea if we just got lucky but id thought id let others know.

ya prob was right on time but not sure how common D3-2 drives are in the US. USB is definitely the way to go but being able to read dvds is still useful
