Atlus Localizing SMT: Devil Survivor for the DS!
Confirmed by Atlus

It's been confirmed, folks. Atlus has announced that they are indeed bringing Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor to North America. You can look forward to kicking some demon booty on June 23rd, 2009 (just like Amazon predicted...), so mark your calendars! A little info on the game:

Siliconera said:
Devil Survivor is the first Shin Megami Tensei game for the Nintendo DS and unlike the other games it’s a sort of like a strategy RPG. Players move COMPS, teenage demon tamers, and their fiendish friends on an isometric grid, but when it’s time to fight combat switches into a turn based RPG.

Good but what about Knights of the Nightmare?

Yeah, they're doing it, the info was leaked some time ago (including the SMT:Ds translation announcement)
See: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=132082&st=0

Among those screens there's one that reminds me of the nes\snes-era SMT games. Ah, the feeling of nostalgia!

An SRPG, hmm... That's a shame, this may be the first SMT since Nocturne that I'll have to skip. That and the fact that these character designs instantly shoved Disgaea in my head and that's a huge turn off for me.

I mean if Atlus is just gonna make another SRPG... Why can't just make another press-turn based RPG instead with some kind of expanded system!? I loved the reward/penalty battle system SMT: Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2 had but eh.

Guess it doesn't really even matter since Circuit City's warranty program stole my DS then promptly died as a company.

I'll check this out (since I've never bothered to play a SMT game before), but if the trailer's any indication, the soundtrack may end up driving me insane. It sounds a lot like the music in The World Ends With You, and I got to hating that pretty quickly.

I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

    Some temporary storage

also @BigOnYa im making some progress on my gdevelop project, implemented various mechanics

They went all in on streaming, should have been more of a hybrid approach

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

@BigOnYa, although the bullets are a bit buggy

Not to mention this would be a massive pain to pirate

    @BigOnYa,
and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

im taking a break for today anyway

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
