Today I decided to try and revive a dead original model Atari Lynx.

After, replacing all the caps on the motherboard it sprang back to life albeit with a non-working screen. So that had to go..

Then I soldered in the replacement LCD from Benvenn..

The 3d printed bracket from Atari Gamer was not centred for me, so I had to add tape to cover the bezel that was visible on one side.
But more importantly, something was wrong with the image..

I tried re-soldering all the wiring a couple times but it turned out to be correct.
Apparently, some consoles need A2 and A3 soldered to different pads than in the instructions.. so after a quick swap..

I know the Lynx II is the more desirable model, but it holds no nostalgia for me so I always wanted a modded Lynx I, and I have to say it's pretty stunning!

It was pretty incredible hardware for when it came out. I'm sure that's got something to do with having the same designers as the Amiga. It's just a shame that Atari didn't really know what to do with it after taking over from Epyx. In the right hands it would've been released before the Game Boy and made it look like a toy in comparison.
