Gaming Art Academy (U) problems???

I am having a lot of problems with a game for the NDS called Art Academy i've tried the futils file createnew, patches, fixes and hex editing but it doesn't work. I even got a save file and even then i have to make a new lesson because the ave is corrupted but when i get into the game i see a sleeping dog with Z's and an infinite black screen on any mode besides the Options screen. Free Paint, Lessons and other gameplay modes do not work and will display that. Is there anyway to play this or will i have to buy a DSi?.
