Developers are really taking advantage of the internet connectivity/hard drives of modern gaming machines. They were never intended to be used as part of the game release process. Only for emergency patches and new content. Remember the days when you bought a video game for your PS2 and it just magically worked without needing patches? That is how it should be.

PC's have an excuse, due to the infinite number of hardware combinations. Patches weren't always a given, but were always forgiven. Console patches? Developers being lazy. And now they are trying to make it status quo to push the game out earlier than it should be and fix it later. And now they're just not even bothering to fix it? How can ANYONE have ANY respect for these people anymore? They treat their customers and their products like garbage.

You have to remember back in those old days there were beta testers, no game was sold in beta form it was actually tested before it hit the shelves. These days the public are free beta testers thats why there are so many patches. Back in the old days there were no need for so many patches as it was tested before.
Yea, DLC was called "expansion pack" as thats what it was, an extra AFTER the game was already finished not DLC alongside the game. These days they make 1 game, cut it up and release it multiple times to make more money. IF they were really in it for the games and not the money they would release it complete. If they wanted to make DLC for it they would do it after the game was finished and tested and released then they would work on DLC.

1 easy way to know if a game is released in beta form and not properly tested is a Day-0 patch. If a game comes with a patch straight away it means you now own a beta version on that disc. The final is that download. Actually, the final is actually the essentials editions. They are usually with all the patches and DLC included. THATS a final version and they are usually what I would pay for a game too.

EXACTLY!!! THATS WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING!
The gaming industry sucks the way it is now. Releasing beta games, mobile games free but full of IAP. Its just a money industry now, no longer a fun gaming industry it was 20 years ago. Even 10 years ago it was better.

I remember those PS1 and PS2 games that just worked without any patches. Those were the days. And PC games, ok some needed patches for different video cards or CPUs but it was usually a 1.01 patch till the DLC came out a year later and that needed a patch to add the DLC to the game so after the graphics card patch and the DLC the version would still be 1.02.

Go have a look at Gran Turismo 6. It just came out. Its got 5 or 6 patches already and a total of what? 6GB? WTF are they thinking? DO they really think we wouldn't realise after 3 months, 6 patches and 6GB that we wouldn't realise we actually own a beta version on the disc.

Yes, I read that. It's not cancelling current DLC. Saying there is no DLC is inaccurate, since it currently has the same amount of DLC as the PS3/360/PC.

On another note, I really wish I had bought a Season Pass now. I would have gotten the DLC free.
Yea, I thought that as soon as I read it. I was thinking of getting the Season Pass last week. I should've.

I think you just skipped straight though rose tinted and ended up at seeing in shades of red.

There are still game testers today, the position is not even close to going away.

Old PC patches were not "silly Intel messed up their floating point unit" and did often sort game breaking bugs.

Speaking of which. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GameBreakingBug
tvtropes I know (alternatively warning, try not to fall too deep though if you are heading down that path then http://www.actsofgord.com/ ).

On zero day patches. Rather often there is a large lag between something going gold and something being released, this is more than enough time to hunt down/discover a few more bugs, code up some DLC for things that had to be put on the backburner to get the game out and more. Not all expansion packs were made after release, much the same as DLC.

There are certainly questionable practices and people, and I hope people will always try and push things here, but from where I sit things have only got better and continue to do so.
