Hardware Are the Gamecube Adapters region locked?

I've been searching for a while now and can only find mixed responses.

I'm importing some more faceplates for my n3DS and though about getting a couple of the adapters (one for me and one for a friend), but I've no idea if JP adapters will work on a PAL console. Can anyone who has a different region adapter confirm if they work? Preferably JP on PAL but any other combination should confirm it, really.

American GC Controller Adapter on European Wii U here. Works perfectly.

If you want 100% truth regarding Japanese adapter on European Wii U, if you have the patience to wait until next week, I'll have one to try out. I'm currently using an American adapter on my European Wii U, no problems at all.

They are not region-locked, but the JP adapters aren't back in stock until the 16th, at least according to PlayAsia.
