my friend at work wants to sell his 3DS console to me which has a broken off joystick, so i was wondering if i can just use the D-PAD to play most of the 3DS games?

or do all 3ds games actually require a functional joystick in order to be played properly?

(can i play JRPG games like SMT4/StellaGlow/Etrian oddessy/Bravely Default with just the D-PAD?)

thanks for letting me know.

what above user said. in most cases you require the circle pad.
but you get a replacement cicle pad for not that expensive i think...

either way if it has a broken circle pad and it's from a friend, i would try to take advantage and get it really really cheap..
otherwise it's not worth the hassle

could probably just use it as a glorified DS for the time being, until you get the circle pad fixed. because all DS games work just fine, if not some cases better than with the circle pad

Metal Gear Solid 3 dont need circle pad pro (but move camera with a b x and y is strange)
Resident evil revelations dont need circle pad pro too (with classic controls dont need move camera)
Zelda majoras mask playable without circle pad
And I dont remember more games
he meant the left circle pad, not the circle pad pro. Of course they will always be playable without cpp.

thanks for letting me know everyone! seems like repair cost for the broken circle pad is another factor to consider, i think i'll just tell my friend that i don't want it afterall.
