Damnt, it specifically said contract with the 3GS thing so hoped that the 8GB one would be contract-free.

Apple should NOT be quoting prices with contracts as the prices for their phones.
Yes, that is the only way that 90% of iPhone owners can afford an iPhone but its not the actual price of the device. Give us the price for the sim-free one. Price of phone varies with contract price. We need both prices to get an actual idea of how much the thing costs.

Also, a free 3GS? MY GOD! Its not like O2 and basically every other UK network have been doing that for the past 6 months. On a £20-25 contract as well. I'd take that but I need the memory space. I wish Apple had kept on with the iPhone 4's 16 and 32GB models just with a price cut. It would mean they would have an even bigger audience of people to sell the phones to.

What are talking about? The first and second iphones worked with 3g as well.

First iPhone: iPhone(people called it the iPhone 2G). Only supported EDGE(Might be mistaken). I know for a fact it didn't support Canadian and other countries 3G bands
Second iPhone: iPhone 3G. Brought the iPhone to most countries in the world. And working on their native 3G bands. (Also a new design)
Third iPhone: iPhone 3GS. CPU and RAM bump. Added the Oleophobic coating to the screen. (Same body as iPhone 3G)
Forth iPhone: iPhone 4. Retina display, CPU bump. RAM bump. whole new design. Flash to camera. Probably more
Fifth iPhone: iPhone 4S. CPU bump(no idea abou RAM). probably more.

All of the phones added better cameras
