Ok get viruses ALOT but,

i need something that's right for me

I want something that works and deletes it not something that shoves it in a virus vault and the virus still works and the anti-viruses can't delete it
I want something that stops thoses trojans poping up and saying get 2009 antivirus free (yeah f**k you)(i know its the virus too

)
I want something that is free or i can pirate
I want soemthing that updates regularly
I want something that doesn't make my computer process at the speed of 1MB Per Hour (Norton!)
I want something at doesn't think everything is a virus (AVG!)

I've tried norton and AVG but i dont like them much..

thanks,

Do format/ reinstall your system before doing so

.

I have been using linux ever since i got this laptop for browsing purposes. It does everything i want it todo , using Opera, Kopete (IM alike trillian) , Konversation, Klibido, xmms, Skype , Teamspeak and quite a few more programs like for viewing avi/mkv.

It is a day job in most cases to have a windows OS free of backdoor's and other stupid stuff.

STAY AWAY FROM PORN SITES!

seriously you need something thats free and updates are free!

NOD32 is good but gives way too many false positives for legit files!

AVG free editions good and so is AVAST home (free) edition both have updates free for life

but AV is not use on its own you need a Firewall and ANTI SPYWARE TOOLS too such as ZONE ALARM freeware for a firewall or COMODO both good free firewalls!

spyware removal tools use recommended ones such as SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY,SPYWARE TERMINATOR 2 and AD-AWARE FREE EDITION to remove hidden spyware that AV software usually misses!

avoid programs like NORTAN/NORTAN 360 they just don't cut it why ?? they still not have been fully licensed to scan using RAR capability's so do a half assed job of scanning RAR/compressed archives!

I would suggest just switching to linux, it is impervious to all virii (although, you can run a virus in a windows emulator on linux if you are that bored)

but....... you already have tux as your avatar, wtf?

I"m using Avast AntiVirus for anitvirus and Lavasoft Ad-Aware for adware, never had a problem before (which i did have with AVG

, my PC slowed down to half speed)

I'm not sure it's a firewall too, but it's always on, and never had a problem with spyware/virus/...

no its an ANTIVIRUS/ANTISPY tool not a firewall

if you use a ROUTER then your pretty much hardware firewalled I use ZoneAlarm purely to monitor OUTGOING software that's calling out to the net

The best antivirus: abstinence. Honestly; if you know what is a virus and what is not, then you don't need an antivirus.

that's a pretty BOLD STATEMENT due to the fact that NEW VIRII are coded/released DAILY!

there's no way possible for any 1 person to know exactly what each and every virus/trojan/rootkit etc signatures look like!

moreso with those that MUTATE/change their shape/form/signature even!

this is why its important that if you do use a windows based machine that you update your AV/spyware programs DAILY!

(btw linux/mac os/beos/other are not totally impervious there are a few isolated incidents of stuff in the wild on these systems although not many there has been some!)

but will add here for amusement that when the MICROSOFT website was under DOS (Denial of Service Attack) they hid their webpages behind LINUX SERVERS!!!!!

I would say Norton... I know everyone is going to bug me for saying that...

Also, once you have a virus but your anti-virus software can't get rid of it, use Linux (Puppy Linux Live CD) to remove it

Please do yourself a favor and uninstall Norton right now!

I work as a PC repair tech. and a lot of machines I get are just virus cleaning.

I use several tools, including SpyBot, Malwarebyte's, and A-squared, among others.

The very first one I used to use is Norton, followed by the rest.

I've seen numerous times where Norton detected nothing, and then the others found various virii (including the Antivirus 2009 virus! how can you miss that one?).
Not to mention the amount of memory Norton uses.

Same goes for McAfee!
