You definitely make some valid points in fact I agree with everything you said. Looking at it from that perspective there really is hope for this next decade, I wonder what direction rock is going to take? With the internet as a distribution resource and readily available music production software able to produce quality recordings the infrastructure is there for musicians to usurp the record companies and do away with them for good. All that we're waiting on is that killer band that is going to usher in the new era, I feel compelled to try and write some new songs..

here is a relatively little known band from Chicago, I believe but can't confirm that this performance is from the late 90's. The song was on their first studio album in 98, their ep in 2000 and their major label debut in 2002. I can definitely place the performance between 98-01. Fred Astaire is widely considered to be one of the greatest tap dancers of all time, the vocalist of this band is of Indian descent and his mom used to force him to practice tap dancing and live vicariously through him in typical Indian fashion or something like that. I like these guys because they employ varying styles, their two major label releases are solid listens the whole way through and they're generally allot of fun. Music just seemed more fun in the 90's and a lot less contrived.

@Danny: The Rental really remind me of weezer in the 90's - another band that got lame in the 2k's

That song is awesome too.

The way I look at things. In the 2000s all of us were spoiled with a lot of new high tech gear, video games, high end consoles, etc. And in this decade people are going to get bored with it and go back to writing music. I see it already happening to a degree. Plus a bad economy helps. Back in the early 90s there was a recession as well and we saw the holy grail of alternative rock bands back then Nirvana come about.

I can't name 10 good bands that came out of the 2000s. That is sad. That must have been a horrible time to go to high school with music like that. Even the rap scene was shit.

It's not very well known that Everclear started out as a grunge band, they gradually transitioned to pop rock through their first three albums with World of Noise being almost completely grunge, Sparkle and Fade being mostly grunge, and So Much For The Afterglow being almost completely pop-rock. Sparkle and Fade is ultimately their best and one of the most underrated albums of the 90's.

In chronological order; I've included two from Sparkle and Fade to illustrate how in-between it was

@amptor: I've debated this further with other people and have come to this conclusion - However you want to define the era's, music definitely does come in waves, and we are definietly coming off of a shitty one. There are very few who would argue that music over the past 7-8 years hasn't been generally shitty.

wow llama riot's choice in music has taken a huge dive. especially judging from the last one in the previous post. I hate diddy he's like a little punk kid brat that thinks he is hard and mature. small minded people buy his music and throw millions of $ at him. he has no class.
