I tried to use a separate microphone with my Windows Vista laptop.
It was sensed in the sound control panel thing, but not in sound recorder!
The green bar that raises when the computer senses you speaking goes up, and I used Microphone Boost (I tried without it, and tried all of the Boost options). The problem is that it just will not record! I feel like the computer can hear, but refuses to emulate my sound!!! :| Any help?

Is Sound Recorder using the right microphone?

This may sound strange, but your laptop may have microphones you don't know about.
For example, mine has no mic or webcam on the outside, but when poking around in a hardware monitor, I saw a microphone.
I tapped on my laptop shell thingy, and the mic spiked.

So see if you can change which mic it's using.
