Hacking Advice: Buying a DS.

I'm goin to buy a DS(original) but I need a cheap brand NEW one (working on $70.00 need to find a cheap online store...know one?). The reason why is because I'm planning on painting and making the screen brighter( the hack)...

well...that hack only works on a certain firmware of the original ds...i believe its the version 5 one.
