Most patches come with a readme file or instructions of some kind. If you having a problem with a specific patch then give details of exactly which patch it is.
An 'untrimmed' ROM is one that has not had the excess data removed. If the filesize of your ROM is exactly 8Mb, 16Mb, 32Mb, 64Mb etc. then it is probably untrimmed.
