Acekard know what they are doing, They wouldn't release a product that could be easily blocked by a nintendo update.

I will be receiving one of these in a few days, so I'll tell you more then.

I doubt it mate, they don't even know how it will look like then. They don't care if the AK2i won't work on US/EU devices because they will just make another card and sell even more. The only reason why a few teams care a bit more about their users and that is because that they buy stuff from them, nothing else. Sadly it's not about being friendly.

Nintendo can't create too many differences between existing DSis and and the upcoming ones. It would be a compatibility and testing nightmare. But what they can do is patch the firmware for ALL regions and block it for everyone. Just don't use Wi-Fi, you say? They can put it on carts just like they do Wii discs. And it probably won't ask you if it's OK to update, either, because as of Wii system 3.4 it doesn't ask you.

So, in short, unless you've got money to throw around and need to be on the bleeding edge of new shiny things wait to see how it pans out.

I was Thinking the same, im sure Nintendo are gonna get there hands on one and see how it works

The DSi isn't that compelling to me, but of course that's all there will be once they are fully released worldwide. I will be buying a backup DS (or two) when the time comes! I have little interest in firmware wars, especially when your firmware can be mandatorily updated without permission, like with the Wii.

To add here that I know that shop.01media.com will have the Acekard DSi in stock from next week they just emailed me to let me know

Just a heads up, its very unlikely a flashcart will be able to load DSiWare and DSi only games due to the way they are handled. The games and DSiWare are encrypted and signed, meaning that the flashcart can not access the data, retrieve the headers or patch the games as they get loaded into memory to run the game.

So all in all, a flashcart on the DSi will let you play only DS games. So in the end, you'll just have a DS with no GBA slot x.x

At any rate, I hope to hear further news on all this. If somehow the flashcart makers can over come these problems (The encryption and firmware updates) then I'll buy a DSi. Until then, I'll wait until the battle between Nintendo and the pirates are over and see who will come out the victor before I waste any money on this.

Maybe if you have an army of PS3s with linux you might be able to crack the encryption on official nintendo firmware. As the PS3 has been used to crack encryption before???

... but I remember reading the SD Slot only around 2 gb ... I want somethin' over that man ... not enough for music and games

The Sd slot in the DSi supports 32gb HCSD cards plus with dsi ware homebrewers will just have to find a way to port their homebrew to dsi by converting it into dsi ware format then make one for each region. But I hate region-coding so go acekard!!!!!!!!!

they also said we could boot wiiware and wii vc games, and what happend? its not gonna take long before we have free dsware, and we can also modify wii's updates so it only updates stuff we need and nothig that will stop fakesigned products to work, so just cause dsi doesnt read fakesigns as of now doesnt mean it wont tommorow. i am such a proud owner of Acekard RPG right now....tho im hoping ak team is able to somehow let up upgrade rpg flash memory so it can boot in dsi as well

Wait!!! Now someone can dump the firmware!
People have already dumped the firmware. You can even download it from the Nintendo servers if you are technically inclined enough to do so. The problem is, its all futile. The firmware, the DSiWare files and just about everything else is encrypted and digitally signed. Meaning its impossible to edit the firmware or read it in anyway unless the encryption is broken which I don't see happening any time soon. Nintendo is using government grade encryption and signing similar to what sites use to manage secure connections.

Unless you have 10 PS3 consoles decrypting the DSi firmware at once wait for the flashcart manufacturers to do better. Plus I heard nintendo stated that they want their dsi to be more than games so their dsiware could provide the same if not more functionality than homebrew. In addition government grade encryption has been broken before so nothing is stopping hackers from getting a cluster to decrypt nintendo firmware. look how fast psp firmware was decrypted!!!! the same will happen for the dsi. In addition adobe said it themselves they want to port flash 10 or optimize it for use in mobile devices with the ARM processor and the DSi had a beefed up ARM processor obviousely the opera browser will be updated to include the new functionality as nintendo can do this.

I personally wont be buying a DSi until the games have stopped appearing on the DS, but glad to know that you guys have already figured this out.

I'm just wondering but do you think one of the flash card teams will make a software or w/e to change the language of the dsi?
cause the dsi is in japanese and all so yeah. cause i'm now thinking of buying one cause of this acecard thing but i'm wondering if its possible?

yes, it would be great if acekard team make a region loader in the linker, because you can only play your DS games in japanese or english if it don't have an option for the language.

It's awesome to see this breakthrough. I bet they're going to get a lot of sales for their effort in being the first DSi compatible cart. And it's well deserved!

Are there any plans for the Acekard 2i to include the card swapping functionality seen in this video of the iPas?

The card basically boots another (non-DSi) flash card, so older generation flash cards can be used. I don't really have any plans to get a DSi, but the ability to use the Acekard 2i for general use and swap to another card for specialist stuff (real-time save, in-game guide, etc.) would instantly improve the AK2i's featureset.

Hey, that's not a bad idea! It should be really easy to implement; just booting a cartridge shouldn't be too hard.

Received my acekard2i today and it works just like the normal acekard2, but now in the dsi

the larger screens and bigger body of the dsi are really welcome features for me, i can sell my dsl now

also updated the dsi firmware to the latest version and it didnt stop the acekard2i from working.
