Hacking Acekard 2i issue

My friend has an original 3DS console that was running the Acekard 2i flashcard. All was well until he borrowed one of his friend's original games and played it. Unfortunately, it updated his 3DS to 9.9.0-0e.
You can see the wings icon in menu window but when you try to access it you get the screen message "An error has occurred. Press and hold down the POWER button to turn the system off.

Is he stuffed?

The only way i can think of is to downgrade the Console set up an EmuNAND and then install the TWL Modification, then the AceKard should work again

But find someone to approve my idea first, i am not quite sure
