witch one should i buy??

i like the acekard 2 for:
it has a more complex gui rather than those cheep 3 icons baby can use menus
auto rom trimmer
its open source so if it runs out of updates other people will keep it alive

i like the edge for:
it has names for skins when you select it (by the folders)
it a cyclo clone so it is goodish

my questions

dose acekard have sdhc

the acekard seems to have strong with updates

there both $30-40 so there good for my "budget"

i need game compatibly

the acekard is open source so more features will be made for it

acekard seems very very very very very very very very very Good!
edge is great for the price

i like how acekard is launched via ds menu

auto boot shits me a bit but still cool

has anyone got any ideas on witch one should i buy

thanks in advance

@Beve/Hexane26,
You already have a thread about this topic! Why would you start a new one?
If anyone gives you any joy with a response here, you'll be one lucky puppy! (Please don't).

First of all:
they both support SDHC cards, and have all basic features which are needed (DLDI, Cheats).

but why do you not simply read the reviews on GBATemp!!

some corrections:
rom trimming makes only sense for RPG (copy from SD card to internal NAND)
AK2 is not open source.
But there is a firmware which is based on the RPG code (AKAIO)
The AK2 also supports the YSMENU GUI.

What do you mean by edge is goodish?
Well I can't say much ... I do not own an EDGE, but what I have seen I am not overly impressed by it.

> there both $30-40 so there good for my "budget"
AK2 is 13 american dollars INCLUDING world wide shipping from dealextreme.
(shipping is not really fast, but reliable)
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16142

EDGE: $23.35 from DX
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10919

I much prefer the AK2, but read the reviews, and decide for yourself.

If you need more features, you can take a look at the Supercard DS1 SDHC review.
It has very many features, great price @DX, but a slow GUI.

yeah but where im buying from only has r4ds's(NO!) N5DS(NO!!) acekard 2 (

) dstt (not that happy with it) Edge(allright!)

The main advantage of the Acekard 2 is that it has one of the best menus of any flash cart. The main advantage of the Edge is that it has a sturdy build quality. That is not to say that the Acekard 2 will fall apart on you (I've never heard of that happening) but I believe the Edge is held together with screws while the Acekard 2 is held together with clips so it doesn't feel as sturdy. I suppose if your Acekard 2 were to come apart (if the clips were to break for some reason), you could glue it shut.

So if having an especially sturdy cart is more important to you than a nicer menu, get the Edge. Otherwise, go with the Acekard 2.

Good explanation. Features are pretty much the same right?

It's not just how the EDGE is put together, but also the quality of the plastic. AK2 plastic seems really cheap while EDGE plastic is slightly more robust.

Edge > Acekard 2

I have a acekard 2 and it's not as awesome as you think it is. It works, but it's only 50% of what you want out of a cart.

Edge should be the same as a cyclo without the nifty features. That means it should run everything near perfect including homebrew and is a fast cart.

For the most part. With the AKAIO menu, the Acekard 2 has several features the Edge doesn't have (for example, I don't think the Edge has multiple game save slots for each game), but nothing you can't live without.

If you were to glue an Acekard shut (not that you'd need to, but if you did) I think it would be quite sturdy. Even if the Edge plastic is a little thicker, so what? I don't take my flash cart out of my NDS except on very rare occasions, so all the talk about build quality seems a little silly to me unless there is truly evidence that a cart is going to fall apart on you or break under normal circumstances.

But I will concede that if someone is particularly concerned about build quality, they should consider the Edge. It's a good flash cart.

I've heard that the new ver 2.1 AK2 (with black PCB) may have a little better build quality.

I ordered one, so we'll see. The clips on it seem to be redesigned, so they might be better than the old ones.

Can you explain what the Edge does that the AK2 with the AIO menu doesn't do?

I take my EDGE cartridge out every time I need to add a new game. With the deluge of games recently, it has been in and out a lot.

The acekard 2s die so much. I'd get an edge. My acekard died and it would take more shipping to send it back and get a new one then to just buy a new one so I'm going with edge. Acekard 2s tend to die within 2-5 weeks. I've had 2 since April. One lasted from april to june and one lasted from june to now, and I'm sick of it.

Why would you have to take out your Edge to add a game? I just take out my microSD card without removing the flash cart.

I've had my AK2 for almost 6 months and have never had a problem. Acekard acknowledged that there was a bad batch of AK2's a while back, but that's been fixed so any you buy now should be fine. Dealextreme.com allows you to return a bad cart and you don't have to pay for the return shipping (they will pay it).

The EDGE doesn't have a spring Bri.

The ak2 is better than the EDGE, I haven't used an EDGE before but I have a CycloDS and an ak2 so i can compare them a bit.

I must admit I've never owned a flash cart without a spring. So you can't pry the microSD card out with your fingernail without removing the flash cart?

My understanding is that the CycloDS and Edge have nearly identical menus (aside from the extra features of the CycloDS), so you can make a decent comparison based on the CycloDS.

Yeah, they will replace it for free if it isn't past the 30 day return policy, in which case you have to pay shipping.

face it, when the main thing people are argueing over is the quality of the plastic the cartridge is made of, there really can't be a great deal of difference between them!
