I am currently a "dirty Menuhax peasant" and thinking about switching to A9lh (to be part of the crowd I guess)...Maybe this Friday if I manage to get access to the family computer for several hours...or in July
And I hesitate between following Plailect's guide straight and go for updated sysnand or keeping the Emunand.

I don't really care about the space in SD (have a 64GB one), or about installing GBA/DSiWare since I don't use them...and I think using an Emunand is safer...

What do you think ?

in about 99% of brick"types" having and updated SysNAND (with state of the art CFW (Luma, Cakes etc.) which protects the FIRM 0/1 Partitions) is as safe as using an EmuNAND (10.7)/SysNAND (9,2).

Since the Firms are protected, even if 10.8 launches, a9lh will persist.
If you brick (anyhow) you can use Decrypt9 (as a9lh payload) to reflash your sysNand from an unbricked Backup before the "main system" will start up, easy as it gets.

My suggestion: go with updated SysNAND :-)

At the end of Plailects guide, you can choose not to transfer and remove your emunand. But once you have A9LH installed, there's really no need for Emunand anymore, except for some very exotic cases (like people plaing with multiple regions, etc).

Go with REDnand for stability(tm) and safety, if you want to be slightly risky but want extra features, go sysnand.

This is not true, as @VIERcntHOLZ already said, you can always boot into Decrypt9 to restore a backup. I'd argue to the contrary, that SD cards are much more likely to fail than the internal NAND, so your data would be safer in SysNAND.

Edit: Also, SysNAND is faster than EmuNAND, depending on the SD card, it could be a lot.

If u wanna use some features only HBL could do,u could keep an emunand. And then, keep sys or emu within 9.0~9.2 so u could access HBL and launch .3dsx/.dat

Well, it wouldn't be unbearably slow in any case. But with A9LH there's really no added security with EmuNAND, rather the opposite, because SD cards fail more often than NAND does.

Edit: In any case, you should make it a habit to make backups of you SD card on a regular basis, in case it fails.

Edit2:

You can use HBL with A9LH just fine, again, no need for EmuNAND.

I suggest going with updated sysnand mode. It boots faster and is safe too. No worries there. And the extra space is always nice, even when you have 64GB.
