Free and good MMORPG is easy now.

Everquest 2 Extended

There are (bearable) restrictions, but you can either (one-time) buy classes, races and other stuff, or play completely free til level 80. It's a really polished MMORPG now, and quite deep.
Those asian mmorpgs are really really crap and mostly straightforward grind oriented, since the main target audience seems to like that.

Hm, 1 GB ram? Sorry, but upgrade to 2 or 4. Ram is really cheap. A good real MMORPG will require at least 2GB (vista: 3+GB). If you don't upgrade, ditch MMORPGs and really play LoL or how about Torchlight, which both should run quite well.

I am aware you have a netbook but since you didn't give any specs you have to decide if EQ2X might run on it. Otherwise, try the other 2 games I mentioned.

The vaaast majority of netbook architectures, even those that are new and in stores now, will not support more than 2 GB. I was very recently (-a week and a half ago) in the market myself in the top-end of netbooks and only a very small handful with AMD Neo processors that are beginning to be stocked -- max out at 4GB. Noting that making the choice for that architecture for the 4GB potential max capacity put me in the $500 price range, I just opted for a light form factor laptop in the same price range.

Anyhow, I came to this thread because of another game I thought of that ran okay on my 1.33Ghz ASUS netbook, it's sort of a hack and slash MMORPG, and it's called GhostX. It is a 3d game and your character has a bit of individual customization. I'd recommend checking out some gameplay vids and reading up on the GhostX site. My boyfriend liked and played the game a lot more than I did, but I did really like that its playability on low-spec machines was better than farmville at the time I played them.

JinTrigger -- By the way, I have a spare 2GB 200-pin DDR2 RAM module. If you can find out if OCZ2M8002G is definitely compatible with your netbook, I might have an early christmas present to send your way. Please be absolutely certain that it's compatible if you want it though. I'd paired it with the purchase of my netbook over a year ago but it wasn't compatible because the DRAM frequency was too high, so I wound up buying another module later on. At the time of purchase it was like 30 bucks, so my dad didn't ask me to bother with getting it refunded, and there would've been a restocking fee since I did actually open it and try to install it.
They are, actually, more expensive now than they were when I bought it, and I was going to eBay it after I finished cleaning house, so again, please be certain that it's compatible if you want me to send it to you.

edit:
@arpeejajo That is a pretty good one, I played it a few months ago through IJJI and once I got out of the starting area I was really impressed. It's still a game significantly above his system requirements though.

try out Ragnarok because it has now an offial server made by gravity which is free to play which is valkerie server

This but play private servers.
Free, and they don't suck complete assmonkeys like Valkyrie does.
I suggest LuminaRO if you go the Ragnarok route (just google it).

LOTRO became free a while ago,I suggest you start there.

runes of magic is also nice
vindictus seems awesome but Europe can't play so I don't know if it's fun or not
