I was practising my soldering skills, but i encounter some difficulties, and I hope somebody can help me with it. Thank you.
1. I heated up my solder iron, and applied a little bit of solder to it, tried to tin the wire. When I put the wire onto the iron and the color immediately turns kind of brownish color, and did not flow to the wire, but stick to the iron itself. did i do something wrong?
2. I managed to tin the wire with that brownish color solder, and ready to solder it onto my old hard drive. I first applied some more solder, and try to tap the point for quickly since i have a 30 watt solder iron, but the solder still doesn't stick to the wire, why?
3. I heard the turn flux, and i google it, but i couldn't find any answers to it, does that mean flux as well?
4. When I solder it to the point, but there were some liquid that came out of the board? Does that mean I heated it too much and burned the board?

Please help me with these questions, I will be appricated. Thank you very much.

hmm did you tin the tip of the soldering iron? usually helps the heat transfer to whatever your soldering. if the solder turns brown its prob the flux burning, also the liquid from the board is the flux from the solder (if it cleans up with acetone or by rubbing on it with a paper town or qtip) if the circuit board looks black, thats when you overheated the circuit board and it burnt

if the wires dont tin well try dipping the wire in flux should fix the problem also try heating the wire a little and adding the solder to the wire

try searching for "rosin flux" never use corrosive flux on electronics

*Edit*

tinned tip (dont have to overkill it like i did.)

Paste flux.

I have a question too:
on the PCB there is already solder on the soldering points.
- Is it possible not to add solder to the soldering points?
- What happens if this solder is removed? (if it stick to the iron or if I use desoldering tools). Will the contact work if I add solder again?

Thanks

there is just enough solder to solder a wire on wii, which i did myself but prob depend on your wire size, also if you remove solder just add it again and it should work fine, long as the pad isnt damaged
