I was just winding about old operating systems and new hardware. Everyone loves windows 2000. I saw that server builds of windows 2000 can address 4 psychical CPUS and since Cores on a CPU are basiclly psychical CPUS tied together at the molecular level i am just wondering if someone could screw with it enough to run windows 2000 or any other 9x system. I know this seems rather stupuid but i was curious if it was possible.

Iirc, Win 9X can see 2 physical CPUs.
Probably with KernelEX you could see more.

Win 2k will run happily on a Dual/quadcore system.
Provided you got drivers for the motherboard n what not.

will a core 2 quad work? becuase i can install more memory and stuff like that

Win 9x stock has a limit of 512MB or 1GB of RAM.
Win 2k... idk 4 perhaps? it's not a 64 bit OS.

But yeh, technically a Core 2 Quad CPU will run without a problem, on Win 2k that is.
98 and 95.. I'd say try it out.

The only real issues you might run into are the drivers.

Yeah I can understand the drivers... If I were to install a operating system I would do a server build of 2000 since that can address more memory

Aside from trying things out, I don't know why you purposely would want a very outdated OS on a high end system...
But yes, generally server OSes have access to more memory.
If it's a 64 bit OS.

To be honest with you I don't know why or how this would be practical but I'm just seeing if it is possible I got the idea in the most boring science class on the history of the Earth
