Did you simply stack two batteries on top of each other and wire them to the same BMS?

That is a recipe for spicy pillows... I wouldn't recommend it.

Cells are stacked and run in parallel on a regular basis. There is a potential for them to become unbalanced but there are ways to mitigate that as well. Quality cells won't have a problem.

Yes, those who can source good quality pouch cells, and know what they're doing, can make it work safely. Still, that's assuming they're decent quality, similar enough in capacity and wear, and somewhat balanced before stacking.

But for those reading this thinking of ordering some crappy cell from Aliexpress and slap it on top of a 6-year old stock battery, just be aware there's a very real chance of a nasty fire.
