If userland exploit still works in the latest firmware and this tweet indicates that the kexploit is still not patched too. Then there is no point staying in 5.0x especially for the likes of me who still have a few years of PS+ sub, right?
That's right, but if you have multiple years of PS Plus I wouldn't remain on lower firmwares anyway.

I'm in the same boat as you, over a year of ps+left and i love playing overwatch online.

I'll wait just one more day before i update though, i want to read directly from that qwerty guy that it's okay to update to 5.50 (because his kexploit hasn't been patched yet, if that's really the case).

Haha, this sounds like a game of chicken to me with Sony and the hackers waiting for each others next moves. So because Sony didn't patch the kexploit then the devs won't release it? What if Sony never patches it...then the devs never release the kexploit?? Maybe that's why Sony never patched it?

Well i think its worth to wait longer and get 5.50 kexploit with more compatibility for new games and stuff like supersampling.

Yeah, probably Sony purposedly waits long enough until we just forget about it or something.

The problem with that strategy is all it takes is one person to release the exploit even if not patched and it all comes undone. From Sony's point of view there could be any number of hackers who might do that and not play this game. Even at 5.05, practically every PS4 in shops now would be hackable. They have to cut their losses and stem the damage asap I think.

I wonder why they didn't patch the web exploit in their latest FW release, though? They surely must have known about it yet they didn't patch it.

I think Sony are perfectly aware that if they don't patch it. It doesn't get released into the wild. Tactics ;) But in all seriousness. Why not just release the damned thing. Sony know of the exploit but still choose to not patch it.

Also, they're living off the success of the PS4.
So they're gonna try to squeeze every last dollar from it until their next big thing comes along.

They know of the webkit exploit, they don't know about the kexploit, if devs release it, it will get patched sooner than later, the idea is when the devs do eventually release it for it to work on as many firmwares as possible, since those entries become few and farther in between with every patch.

The logic that devs want the exploits patched so they can release them is flawed, it would be short sited, if that were really the case they would report it to Sony, possibly even collecting a bounty for it, so that it would surely get patched, and they could then release it. I'm sure this does happen occasionally, but more often than not the devs just want the entries to be available for as long, and on as many firmwares as possible,
