Haha, except it is possible? Once again, I will state it has already been done. Maybe it is you that doesn't know what you are talking about.

The means to do so is drastic. It requires hardmods and replacing the eMMC.

Thinking it's not possible is just ignorant. I have a bachelor's in computer sciences, and work as a Pen Tester for a large company. I know a thing or 2 about what I'm saying lol. Not that you will believe that, I don't blame you, internet and all. The point is, every system can be cracked period. It's whether or not it's worth doing so is the question. Where once again, in this case, it has already been done. However the way it has been achieved makes it not worth the time or effort or money to do so.

However I suggest you do some googling, and don't be so quick to write things off. Like I said, there is a difference between possible and plausible.

A tip, it is never a good idea to speak in absulotes as nothing is ever absulote. People said absolutely the earth was flat, they were wrong. People were absolute, man could never go in space, they were wrong.

You were absulote, downgrading isn't possible, you are wrong. Anyway don't believe me, it was featured on PSNHax, you can look. I will try to find a link later when I have some more time. They said themselves the cost of doing it, is fairly high so it wasn't worth it. They weren't selling anything, they just did it to see if they could.

Does anyone know it it would be possible for hacks to allow UPDATING to official firmware without the BLU RAY check that occurs causing Error E-801809A8?

Would it be possible to have someone edit the firmware update and remove the Hardware check, yes. Is it likely to happen, I doubt it. I think most that would be capable and know enough about the PS4 to do so, are already swamped with the exploits.

Sony said they would release a firmware without a check, then they backtracked :(.

very true about the emmc but i dont think it should be that hard maybe avoid ripping pads when you remove the emmc I do this on cellphones but on the ps4 it might not be worth the time hopefully someone posts a guide

I appreciate the idea being entertained at least. It sucks to have a perfectly functional system essentially be turned worthless by Sony being dicks

At the very least I should be able to set it up as an emulation machine and give it away? Not sure what else to do with it.

That's a good idea, they would only need to port 1 subset, as you can't get past 4.73, unless your drive died after the 5.00 update.

However ya, there is a ton of people affected and stuck at 4.73

It does not have an eFuse afaik. And further more, eFuse or not, Sony can always "downgradge" a PS4 as they a) have the crypto key to do what you can't do and b) re-build an older version as a new one if it's eFused. They can even rewrite the bootloader and shit to bypass anything, dump anything and restore anything. You said it like even Apple can't downgrade an iOS device, which is apparently wrong and sounds stupid. They can do it, just won't do it (for you). And at some point, we might be able to do it via exploits found on the fw/hw. There's always chances.

I already have a working PRO that covers my needs

Was really just hoping that there was some kind of option to use the recent hacks to give the OG Ps4 something useful to do

If it's just that the update is blocked and the newer versions will actually run then if the kernel patches are ported to 4.73 then you might be able to create a hacked installer for 5.x that skips the bluray firmware update.

Assuming of course that 4.73 has the exploit that they are using in 5.05

kiiwii you know when the release is? I guess the k exploit is already working but specter is writing an information post on how they found the exploit right?
 
A Wololo post isn't a definitive reference, but yeah, it's what I meant with "normal channels". ^__^

I think there's a note on psdevwiki that mentions the Cell CPU has 48 bits eFuses that are used to store the consoleid (or another unique per console code).
