Hey guys I was wondering what is the odds of a 4.73 exploit ever coming? Or is there anyway to downgrade at all even a risky way?

I have a PS4 that Sony killed with update 5.0 bluray debacle. I cannot upgrade further, so there it sits. the drive doesn't work, and PSN is disabled on this old firmware. So it is essentially a brick now. So if there is any downgrade chance at all, I am game. I have already long replaced this system and am getting ready to get a pro to replace the system that replaced this one. Any chance at life is worth it to me.

Even if I could scrap PS OS and put Linux on it somehow that would at least give it some use.

Looking around at the news and such, it seems 4.73 is being skipped, so is it time to just toss this thing in the trash?

I'm not sure I understand... why can't you update it?

?

You didn't hear about the whole 5.0 debacle lol. If your PS4 has a broken Bluray drive it cannot be updated to 5.0 or anything past that, the only way is to replace the BR drive, which means replacing the Mobo, so basically replace the PS4. They just did the same thing again with 5.53, there is a BR drive update in 5.0 and 5.53, if your drive doesnt work, it cant be updated if it cant be updated it wont allow a console update.

Basically from the way I understand it, anything before 5.0 uses BR Firmware 1.0, then for 5.0, it checks your BR Firmware (and everything past that) if your drive is 1.0, it must update for the console to update, to say BRF 1.1.

Now with 5.53 its happening again, so now its updating to 1.2, and if your not on 1.2 you cannot update. People are saying they their drive worked for 5.0 but now it doesnt for 5.53.

They are basically saying if your BR player dies we will brick your console. And tying your investment to their subpar junk of a disc Drive.

Its called "Error E-801809A8", and 150 dollar fix from sony..... + shipping, or buy a new one.

The research I just did on it says you can fix this by simply opening up the console and disconnecting the bluray ribbon cables, people are saying it wont work on 5.53 but it should be good for anything before that.

Ya that dont work for me :(. I actually removed the bluray drive altogether in my trying and threw it away (figured Id nest a a external hard drive in there or something) no go, still doesn't update. I tried every release, 5.0, 5.1, 5.5, nothing for none of it.

Plus all my games are digital, so anything below current is worthless for me (without an exploit)

I see, that sucks, there currently isn't anyway to downgrade, and there is no telling if any new exploit will happen to work on your current firmware. It might be worth it just to pay for the Sony fix considering $150 is a little cheaper than any system your going to find right now, or around the same price, but they will also likely update to the latest firmware which means no exploit.

Have you considered trading it in to GameStop to recoup some of your loss, I know alot of gamestops wont even bother to put a game in the console when taking trades, especially if they are busy at the moment, I mean the worst that could happen is they do try to play a game in it, and take it as a defective unit.

Well its 150+ shipping, it comes out to close to 220 all said and done. And like I said, I have another fat to replace it, got lucky told my sister about the issue when it happened and her husband gave us their old fat (they have a Pro now) and besides will be getting a pro soon. Switch first, then Xbox One X, then a Pro so a few months away but still.

We upgraded to a 4k TV, and my PJ has HDR, so its time to start moving to 4k devices :). Got to do the Switch first for the children though lol, then Xbox due to the media features. (we have a switch, but Im going to Homebrew it, so have to get another for the kids :P)

As for the Gamestop, wouldn't really want to pass burden on them. Also we live in a small town, there is 1 Gamestop, and its a family owned franchise. Dont want to burn that bridge (even though they way overcharge for everything!)

So you think we will never see an exploit for 4.73? Shoot even if I could get kodi on it or something Id be happy. Anything is better than straight throwing it away :(. In its current state I cant even use it for a netflix/hulu box, and even that would be fine. (could swap the PS3 we gave our daughter as a Netflix/Hulu box)

it is impossible to downgrade a ps4

From what I have been reading not impossible, just not plausible. Someone seems to have found a way to do it, through hardware modding. Though he is not ready to release to public yet (starting Kickstarter soon) Which is what I was asking about, I know the normal software ways are not going to work, but im fine with a hardware mod if it saves this PS from the bin.

Nothing is impossible :P.

So you think we will never see an exploit for 4.73?

I'm pretty sure that qwertyoruiop will release its jailbreak for FW 5.xx in the near future (in relation to the age of the universe, mostly when he'll be bored enough), having said that at release date the WebKit exploit would probably work with FW 4.73 but the kernel exploit would definitely need to be ported to FW 4.73.

It should not be really hard, assuming the software defect is the same it would only be a matter to replace the few funcalls' offsets used in the exploit, but someone is required to do the work. ^__^

Well I'll hold out hope, all I can do I guess.

Have you tried updating from safe mode?

Yep both update, and reinstall, with every firmware. In safe mode, not in safe mode, via the Internet. Tried every way.

Sony confirmed when it first happened, what the issue is and that it will never update. Then they said there will be a fix soon, as there is quite alot of users affected. They then changed that stance to we changed our minds, get it repaired or buy a new one. Conviently this happened at 5.0 release right after Slim and Pro release, it was obviously intentional, make people buy the new consoles.

Many things are impossible. Don't be ignorant.

It is now, and forever will continue to be, IMPOSSIBLE to downgrade the PS4 firmware. Not even Sony can do it. Don't try and sound all wise and shit when you don't actually know jack.

And before you come out to say some little sob story and "anything can be done, its just time", no... NO amount of time, not even seven hundred forty eight thousand years from now. eFuses... Look it up. Go away.

You're welcome.

Let's try again.

Sony didn't used eFuses on PS3 to prevent FW downgrade, they were used to store consoleid or similar. Having said that, do you have a source that states that PS4 firmwares are tracked by eFuses?

And no, eFuses won't magically protect your device, look up in Google for examples.

I don't need to explain anything to some basic, non-techy, know-nothing. Good luck with, whatever.
What i will tell you, is everything i i said is right, and you literally know nothing.
Please lock this thread. Does not belong in hacking section. Barely even belongs in a question sub. There should be a noob section for people to spam and flood.

This would be great because I basically have a paperweight PS4 with the exact same issue

Except my problem was self inflicted. I replaced the motherboard but it didnt come with the Married Blu Ray daughterboard. I didnt sweat it because it was never an issue until 5.0 hit

Boom no more updating and no way to fix it myself. I have a PS4 pro now but I wouldn't mind turning my old PS4 into something useful

Does anyone know it it would be possible for hacks to allow UPDATING to official firmware without the BLU RAY check that occurs causing Error E-801809A8?
