Maybe BBKing upgraded to SM4.2 via Waninkoko's Updater or DOPIOS and restored the trucha bug and didn't realize this. And it's how this worked.

Anyhow, I'm gonna test this when I get home, just cause I got the itch

Of course, I'll be manually updating my Wii with WAD Manager and all the newer IOS including the Stubs to simulate a Virgin 4.2 Update.

Aahahaa!!!

No, I didn't. But thanks anyway. It's possible I had a high version of 37, 38, 53 or 55 trucha signed before I updated. But it doesn't explain why it failed on the others I tried (250, 38 ) and the very first time I tried 70, it worked.

When I updated it was the day 4.2 came out. I thought I was getting 4.1 and knew the HBC wouldn't get deleted.

Boy did I get a shock when I saw my Wii's menu with no HBC.

I'm testing a mates Wii over the week end.

Thank you guys for all your help.... I got my GC controller today and did the last step... I guess now I am ready to start backing up my WII games...
My ultimate goal is to get them to run off from an External USB HDD....
The kids around here are kinda rough with the discs and repairing them is getting to be a pain.

THANKS AGAIN!

Did you by chance install IOS70 before updating?

I saw somewhere around here a recommendation that you install a trucha bugged IOS70, then officially update. If you did that, it's why it worked.

Now i'm really tempted to go install IOS70 on my 4.0U and try it (even though i already have cIOS installed)...

Oh... since you guys were so helpful... I thought I might ask one qq....

Now when I turn my Wii on I get a little menu.... should I leave it like this or is there some other configuration that would be more optimal?

The Bootmii menu??

I just take my SD card out and boot the Wii. If you always have the GC controller connected just select "Wii" everytime you boot.

I've got 2 SD cards. And the one without BootMii on it I usually leave in so it doesn't boot BootMii.

With no SD card in it it comes up with the Menu..... I don't think it's the BootMii menu either.... it says "Preloader 0.29" in the bottom right corner.

thats preloader
youll get used to this screen as you brick.
aha, anyways go into its settings and change to "boot to" to load: the system menu.

ok, if I do that, how do I get back to Preloader again?

Also, how do I get to Bootmii from preloader?

Or am I thinking this all wrong??

Thanks.

you get into preloader by hold reset when your wii turns on.

Sweet... thank you so much.
You guys are all awesome! Now it's on to USB Loaders.... Thank YOU for that guide... awesome job.
I know how underwhelming it is to see us newbies just go step by step through all this that you geniuses have worked so hard on only to see us complain how we can't get it to work

So I just wanted to say thank you again for all your hard work and for making it easy for us, the ignorant masses, to enjoy the fruit of your hard labor.
