Hacking 3DZ rom question

Okay, so Ive been really confused about this, I have MH4s rom That i found on the internet, But I wish to play it online, Do I just do the whole rom patcher method and switch the file to 3dz and play online OR can I not be able to play online at all due to it not being my own backup, again since I found it online

as far as I know as long as you properly change the header and file from 3ds to 3dz, it should work fine. but I havent tested it with MH4. i've tested with smash and ACNL and they work fine online. make a copy of your rom first and try it, thats what I did

edit: smash and ACNL were not my own backups either
