Mmmmh... Now I wonder what would happen if Taihen Trojan or DarkFidders Trojan were to be ran on the 3DS. I suppose it would only affect the DS portion of the 3DS, but still.

It's possible. So just make weekly (or every fortnight) nand backups but using freeShop or the ticket thing. Is safe.

NAND Backups can't save you from everything. If they guy knows what he's doing you can just mess with with MCU and have a unfixable brick.

Yea... But how? Only MCU brick we've seen is from invalid LED patterns, and it was explained earlier here that it only works on lower firmware versions.

I know the DS era had one, The Taihen trojan and DarkFader's bricking app. However I haven't yet seen anything that does this so far on the 3DS.

oh i remember these one, posing as a cartridge game so no one wouldn't know if it is malware. When DQ IX was reported leaked, i unknowingly downloaded the malware one. Unfortunately i'm saved from the brickcode since my sister took the DS to the campus with her, so i test it on desmume first to see how it plays, and you know the rest, a hentai slideshow. Many DS fell victim because of those files.
If you installed the cia or 3ds files off the net, it may be injected with some malware files, but i think it's safe if you download through freeshop or ciangel.

Ok... But unless someone is on firmware 8.x or lower (normally impossible for new 3ds) we would need a different MCU attack. You could make the cia downgrade the 3ds I guess, but that would require you include the files needed, plus it would be pretty obvious.

You don't understand. Invalid MCU commands =/= Nintendo forgetting to check the file versions.

IIRC, I believe I remember that the FlashMe custom firmware made the Nintendo DS unaffected by the brick trojan (or at least made it easier to recover). But ya, those were the days XD

Back in the days when I have the ds, I got thr Cyclops flashcart and I download roms from anywhere and play and never got bricked, that was like 7 years ago, the good old days, wish I can go back in time

we already have our virus solution, dsimode has direct access to the nand so a nefarious dsiware CIA file could fairly easily be crafted to brick even a9lh system......in fact it could technically even bypass emunand if nand's are linked as dsiware games run on the sys nand twlfirm iirc, although Im not sure if it would need the "virus" to be installed on both emunand and sys nand like it does with unlinked emunand, none the less, for most people running a9lh sys nand a dsiware could brick your system if the creator has malicious intent

ps the old ds bicker things can only corrupt the ds settings on the 3ds, iirc going back to the settings will force reset them unlike on nds consoles

there is always that one guy who does it just to gloat, or sometimes the guys who hate piracy might see an opportunity to "teach people a lesson", or if we go conspiracy theory levels developers/publisher and/or Nintendo might fancy faning the flames of fear by releasing a few dodgy tools under another name, while sure they may only brick 1 or 2 people before people get the word out, it would act as a pretty good deterrent to scare off the less confident

but so far we have been lucky and nobody has really decided to unleash their *mighty sword of vengence*

Luckily for us 3DS users, games containing malicious code seem to be confined to the PS Vita... For now...

At least they have an app on the PC that can scan the vpk to see if it is safe for vita
