I wonder if there is is a risk if you download games from an untrusted source, and install the cia, fbi, or play .3ds roms, is it possible that the file contains scripts to wipe out your 3ds system files and brick your 3ds? Like with ps vita, if you install vpk from somewhere, and you install it, it could be a virus that can brick the vita, so what about 3ds?

Of course you can brick your system by installing something that wrecks your Nand, but not like as in integrated into a malicious game rip. Never heard of anything like this.

It's possible. So just make weekly (or every fortnight) nand backups but using freeShop or the ticket thing. Is safe.

There hasn't been anything like that yet.
However, it's always a good idea to have a backup of your NAND in case something like that does happen and doesn't touch FIRM1 (I believe that's where K9LH is installed)
Atleast you'll be able to restore the 3DS then.

No, at least no on firmware (emunand or sysnand) 9.3+ because don't have access to the system to make it. Another case is a cia created to replace a system app in that case is possible but is easily detectable and only brick the ctrnand.

Is there a program to scan cia/fbi/3ds files in your PC to make sure it is safe before moving it to your 3ds and ise it?

This is very much possible. It would be as simple as injecting an app that deletes system menu from NAND when run which CIA installed apps would have permission to do. Once installed and run boom bricked. Although to brick A9LH youd need to hijack the ARM 9 processor and use its permissions to over write the hack with corrupted data. This would ireversably (without band backup and hardmod) brick the system... Though frankly anyone who would do this deserves to violently beat with a spiked dildo.

Someone actually did this on the vita scene...

Having emunand only need to restore a backup and if is have a9lh only need to restore the ctrnand with Decytp9.

I know the DS era had one, The Taihen trojan and DarkFader's bricking app. However I haven't yet seen anything that does this so far on the 3DS.

Did you read the damn post? Removing system menu from sysnand would brick anything but a9LH and to brick that simply requires control of the ARM 9 processor to bypass the firm protection and writing just about anything over the hack.

Thanks for reminding me to make a 3DS bricker :yay3ds:
(no, my version doesn't touch a single file at all (including NAND stuff), it's a suprise :creep:)

Have a cia spam invalid code to the LED. Boom. MCU brick. No way to recover even with a hardmod. Gg no re.

That has been already busted '_>' It's 100% brickproof above 8.1 (iirc yellows8 had 4.x or something), and I have *personally* tested it on my 11.0 old3DS, and it still works.

I see. Wouldn't be suprised if there was still a way to MAKE it brick the MCU with effort. Not that I would know, it just seems likely that code could be manipulated to make the MCU freak out.

Trust me, I have tortured the poor MCU on my old3DS, and it still works, so I don't see why would it brick. Didn't brick me!

Don't download games from untrusted sources then lmao. There's only one source you need, and it's that one iso site we can't name. Isn't hard to find. OR you could .. you know .. use freeshop.

Some cia files like sysupdater have arm9 access, so I'm assuming this is possible... Couldnt you just make a cia that destroys / removes the a9lh installation, then installs broken system files to brick the NAND?

sysupdater only have arm11 access is imposible to obtain arm9 access from the home menu without a arm9 exploit.
