Hardware 3DS sound quality and volume?

You didn't read my post.
Headphones can be annoying to use, or extra stuff to carry around one might not want.
I never said the speakers are not loud enough. I said it is a good question to ask if one likes to use the speakers instead of headphones.

Of course headphones have their pros, but so do speakers. I only replied to the fact that it's a decent question and why some people actually care about the volume of speakers.

I read your post, and what it seemed like you were asking was "why include speakers if you can just use headphones?" and then answering it with the cons of headphones. But it's perfectly playable as-is without the need for accessories. It's not Nintendo's fault that you can't hear the 3DS when you're in a noisy environment and they also give you the option to be able to play in those noisy environments by providing a headphone jack. And earphones and IEM's hardly take up any space.

Wanting to know how loud the 3DS is and how it sounds is a good question, but saying how it should be to fit someone's needs isn't necessary.

I was noting how speakers wouldn't even be needed if the solution to their low volume would be "to use headphones". Again, I'm not blaming Nintendo, and for the second time, I've no idea how loud the volume in the speakers is - all I'm saying is that the OP had a valid question.

The amount of volume isn't just fitting one person's needs, most people will use the speakers as they are inbuilt and easy to use. Headphones might be a bit clumsy at times.

I tried it, the speakers are pretty decent, and they can be loud without distortion. That being said, my entire life owning a handheld gaming device, from the giant gray brick called the Nintendo Game Boy, all the way to the Sony PSP, I always used headphones in one shape or form. It was kind of hard not to when you annoy the shit out of everyone around you with repetitive game sounds. (try playing Tetris on full blast on a road trip and see how long it takes for someone to flip out)

I tried 3DS myself yesterday and today and unfortunately the sound volume is low. Is like DS Lite and not like the DS (fat). It's annoying that Nintendo is trying to not having loud sound and make us use headphones. It happened in DSi / DS Lite and now continues to 3DS. I wish we can raise it with a future hacking along with region-free.

By the way can you recommend me some good headphones with volume control? I need them for my mobile.
Thanks.

Someone a few days ago was complaining about one speaker being louder then the other also. I guess It is some kinda defect in some of the units.

They make so many launch systems so fast some of them are gonna have problems in certain area's and others will have a problem with something else...

I think If you happen to get one that doesn't have any issue you where pretty lucky. There seems to be many reported problems with different aspects of each unit.

It's definitely a lot worse when playing DS games.
I haven't noticed any issues with 3DS games or the built-in stuff.

Yep, that's because you are smart TwinRetro and understand the industry. Plus you live in Vegas so that says you know where to be also, (best place in the world I think). I moved out there for three years and had a blast but had to move back east because all my family lives in New York and their was too much going on all at once to stay.

Mine sounds great to me. It even has a bit of simulated surround sound to it I think. I got that feeling while using it earlier, and I was outside to boot! For general use for me the volume is just right.

Well from finally purchasing and experiencing the 3DS myself, the speakers do seem significantly louder than the DS Lite so I am very satisfied with it in that regard. In Super Street Fighter IV they do seem a little on the lower side but I suppose good enough.

Just picked mine up today and the sound is quite low... A tad lower than my dsLite actually... My dsi booms compared to it ... Taking it back to target tomorrow for an exchange

Sound quality is great. Still sounds like a "handheld", but it's better quality than I've heard before.

Volume on the other hand seems lacking. I was playing while I had a few friends over watching March Madness games. Even when they weren't talking, it was hard to hear anything with the TV at a decently loud volume. It was a little higher than normal use (the TV), but we certainly weren't blasting it.

It seems like volume-wise my XL blew it out of the water.

I like the sound quality from my 3DS, especially the surround effect, although the volume is a tad low! I tried earphones in mine for the first time, and I found the sound to be a bit too low, but the quality was great.

exactly my thoughts

i mostly have the volume slider on max and sometimes, it's still not enough
the sound quality is great, but not for the 3ds sound application - listening to music
the sound is even lower and the mp3 playback is a bit dull

though with earphones, the quality is really good, just like with the dsi

Well I noticed that you can increase the volume a tad in SSFIV. That and I am using the surround sound option. Stereo may possibly boost it up some if you don't mind sacrificing that. When playing old DS games I definitely notice the max volume being much louder than the DS Lite's max volume.
