Hardware 3DS sound quality and volume?

I have a 3DS and I must say the volume is too low even with headphones

I have a PSP and I recently completed Birth by Sleep and I kinda enjoyed its soundtrack. So I transferred a track to SD card and ran it on 3DS music application and it was significantly lower than when I heard it on the PSP. Not to mention, the output sound quality is also a bit inferior to the PSP.

This is quite disappointing really. I hope Nintendo can fix these issues with a software update. I was quite excited when I saw the Dream Drop Distance trailer with its graphics but I'm not sure if it will deliver in the audio now...

What this guy said, the 3DS sound is a crap, no good even with headphones
And this can't be fixed with a software update cuz its hardware related I hope next revision fix all the problems the 3DS has

Compare it to a DS Lite and the audio is plain awesome (headphones are significantly softer though).

Compare it to a DSi XL/LL and it's crap.

I have more to add. It seems that when I'm playing my 3DS the volume is all right and I don't find it to be that loud but when I leave it at max and leave it in my room it's pretty audible from afar. Though I do agree with using headphones, audio is too damn low when I use them (but only have certain mp3s and games). I notice DS games generally sound louder than my only 3DS game SSFIV (despite using stereo or surround and maxed up volume in options) so I think it has little to do with software too.

the 3DS volume sucks compared to a PSP. I'm even looking for a hardware mod which could boost a little if possible the low-volume. On 3DS speakers is actually louder, but on earphones just sucks.

headphone/line-out is low volume...you need easily driven headphones/earphones to get decent volume out of it.

It has a good sound quality to them, but a friend of mine had his speaker go out mere hours after he bought his 3DS. He still needs to ship it in. >_>

The speakers do their job well and it's loud enough when playing a game.
Though I noticed that the volume in 3DS sound is really low, so much so that you're better off using 3DS camera after putting in a custom video.
I had Sonic Generations playing some old sonic songs and that was really loud with headphones, but when I tried playing the same songs in 3DS sound, you could barely hear it

I bought a preowned 3ds close to launch. Its sound was utterly screwed. Way too low! Had to send it to Nintendo for a warranty repair.

But yeah, I'm pleased as hell with its volume. It's really quite brilliant how loud it can be.
