Trimming always worth it ;) even on "big".
32 Gb and not enough space have already occured for me :p
Even if, of course, Gateway implementation of CIA saved a lot of space for me :p

uh, okay.

i read this but i don't get how to use this program. i don't understand very well how to use the command thingy when it's on my language, let alone in another's.

so, i have the program and a rom called v-dkcr3.3ds in a folder; i have the command thingy already opened in that folder (which is called "Nova pasta" by the way)

what exactly should i be imputing on the command thingy for it to trim my rom?

Wait, can I remove system updates from game backups and still use them in Sky3DS? Or will this introduce an incompatibility? Can't test atm, still waiting for my Sky3DS card.

You can only trim unused space, any other will modify rom data itself and 3DS won't load that rom

Is it possible to swap out update partitions with say, a lower version of an update? An example would be:

>Have 7.2U 3DS
>Wanna play Smash, but it has 8.1U on the ROM
>Use tool to remove 8.1U update
>Use tool again to inject 7.2U replacement update
>Launch Smash without being asked to update to 8.1U

I would also like to know if this could be possible in a future release, it would be fantastic!

so now ive hit my limit on my cart, but none of my games are trimmed

am i right in assuming the list in the link above is about trimmed roms?

is it safe to trim games as long as theyre not on the list above?

I tried multiple times to trim a 3ds rom on my Mac, but I always get the following errors: "Permission denied" or "Segmentation fault:11". Can anyone explain in detail how to use this tool to trim a rom with the Terminal on a Mac, please?

I'm attaching a zip that someone posted somewhere on this forum, that contains a rom_tool build that works fine for me. If it doesn't work for you, my only other thought is: is your mac a 32-bit one? I could never get rom_tool working on my old 32-bit macbook, tho it works fine on my newer 64-bit macbook air. If you still have trouble, there's a python script somewhere that will work, I should be able to find it for you.

It provides instructions when you run it, it's just:
rom_tool -t <filename>

If you're not familiar with the command line, then I guess...
1) Run "Terminal" from /Applications/Utilities in Finder
2) Drag rom_tool from Finder, wherever you unzipped the file I posted, into the Terminal window
3) Click on the Terminal window and type -t (dash then t) followed by a space
4) Drag the .3ds rom you want to trim from Finder into the Terminal window
5) Click on the Terminal window and press return
