Thanks to all of you. With all of your help I figured it out; basically it all came down to my mac being incompatible with a bunch of the downloadables (.exe files, .7z compressed files, and even websites themselves). Good thing I have Windows 8 on BootCamp... I need it to write the files to the microSD anyways, since the disc writer tool is only for windows.
