Hardware 3ds power button problem

I'm pretty sure you're suppose to hold it in, like it says in the manual

Another thread that could be avoided if only someone would have read he's F-manual.

RTFM !!

I don't need to hold the button neither do i need to press several times, i just need to wait a few seconds for the 3ds to actually boot up ...

dunno what your problem is, my computer normaly needs longer time to boot oO

well if it really does nothing after pressing once it sucks but ever tried to wait like 2 or 3 seconds before pressen another 10 times ? ^^

Hmm, I also noticed that after updating mine doesn't turn on easily. I tested holding it down, and that has no effect. I just have to press it 2-3 times to get it to turn on.

I've been having this same problem, and I just tested it.

I have not turned on my 3DS in about 6 hours, so I opened it and held the power button down. I held it for 6 SECONDS (timed by my computer) until it turned on. I then turned it off and held the button again. Less than a second this time.

Strange issue, but nothing big.

Nothing big but it is a fucking $250 system! Get it together Nintendo!

my problem isn't about waiting its about the fact that it now takes more then one press to work. i don't press it 10 times in a row, perhaps you should ask me some questions before making assumptions about me.

Yeah, I have the same issue (as stated in another thread I think). EVEN WHEN I DO hold the button, it won't work sometimes.

I have held it for upwards to 10 seconds and it did nothing. I wait around for it to boot and nothing happened... I just randomly tap it now it IS frustrating. I is messed up things like the GAME GEAR, Game.com, ORIGINAL GAME BOY and VIRTUAL BOY have a more efficient power button, don't you think?

Hold the power button for roughly a quarter to a half a second for the 3DS to start a Boot-up sequence, after which the system will initialize, and take a few moments for the screen to turn on with the operating system loaded.

It takes a few moments for the system to turn on after initially pressing the power button
because there's actually a complex operating system
on it.

For those who aren't exactly technical geniuses: It's much more akin to a computer or home console system than it is to handhelds. Even the PSP had a lengthy boot-up sequence, but you don't see people complaining about the power switch not working, because there was an "ON" position. Instead of mashing the power button until it works (for which I cry for the poor 3DSes having their lifespans shortened by angry users), have faith your action actually being the right one and wait a damn moment for it to do its work.

You all make me cry tears of sadness and frustration.

And for those complaining about the wobble: deal with it. The top screen is pretty heavy, and wobble is physically unavoidable without making the hinge of the system absurdly difficult to open. Learn some basic fulcrum physics. Every DS has wobble, whether you notice it or not (the phats especially, because they were heavier).

Lastly, the imprints on the top screen? Get a screen wipe. God.

Misinformation really bugs me, and it bugs the interbutts, too. Please, think of the interbutts.

You have no clue what the hell we're talking about here. But you come in and start acting like you know everything. Get the fuck off your pedestal.

What we're saying is that we press the button and it doesn't even go into the boot-up sequence. You can wait for eternity and it will never turn on. It takes a couple of presses to get it going. Read the thread properly before posting and don't assume everyone else is an idiot.

I've noticed this probelm too, and thought it was introduced with the big June 6th update. My 3DS has powered on with one press of the power button since I got it. Then after the update, I started to worry when my 3DS wouldn't power on at all. It literally took about 6-8 seconds of holding the button for it to turn on. Strangely, there's normally a small boot-up time until I get to the main menu, but when I held the power button down it powered on directly to the main menu.

It's only happend a couple times since, and seems to occurr when I haven't played my 3DS for a length of time. Since I've been playing my 3DS constantly since Zelda came out, it hasn't happened again. I also thought that it could possibly be the button wearing out. I tend to press the power button on the right side of the button, and maybe it wasn't pressing it down correctly. Now I try to press the power button towards the left, or middle of the button.

I have this same issue, sometimes I can't get the system to start at all, no mater how long I hold it or how often I press it - I get concerned it's broken. Since I'm in Vietnam, I wouldn't know how to repair it.

Not sure when it started though, if it was after the June 6th update or before that, but I feel like it didn't happen when I first got it.

Like others here, I think the placement of the button itself is terrible. I'm not sure why that's not the wireless button and the original power button location has been changed.

There is a "boot up sequence" ?
when i press the button i have black screen for like 2 or 3 seconds sometimes a little bit more and than it just shows the normal home screen.

but well when there are "several" ppl saying that even after many seconds nothing at all happens it might really be a problem with the contact or something ... maybe some dust got between the contacts or whatever.
should not happen but its possible with any tipe of button if its not isolated properly, maybe they used cheap materials or weren't all to clean in the company producing the 3ds.
not to sure about chinese quality nowadays but china stood a long time for cheap and bad remakes (well later on for barely perfect remakes) still the 3ds is made in china maybe they are not that good yet. (they should have made them here in Germany

would have just added 200€ off the price for each console XD)

P.S. how exactly would a software update make the hardware not react properly anymore ? as i understand you ppl say the hardware does not turn on when pressing the button so nothing software related at all ...

I have to do that too.
But now I've realised you've just got to gently push it in and it starts up. I kept pressing it like you would the DSLite..but it's different, treat it gentle

i guess i should made a vid or something.

when i press and hold the power button for up to 30 seconds, nothing happens. when i press and hold the power button for up to a few seconds, nothing happens. when i press and hold the power button for up to 10 seconds, nothing happens. if i simply tap the power button, nothing happens. what i am forced to do, after leaving the 3ds off for long periods of time, is to press and hold the power button 3-5 times for the blue power light to come on and for the 3ds to boot up.

i can press it for "roughly a quarter to half a second" and then watch as it does nothing for 10 minutes.

i'm sorry, but you do not know what you are talking about and you appear to be referencing your own unique experience.

the only time it does what you are describing is if i recently played. if i have not recently used it (perhaps it sat for a week and was not used) it fights with me to power up. it did not do this when it was new and out of the box, this only started after updates. i didn't keep track as to which update because i find most of the current software rather boring and i'm not using the 3ds as much as i would like.
