And Nintendo has never reused their own design on new consoles, why would they start now?

Cuz it's cheaper

!

More importantly because it has to be backwards compatible, which means it has to have two screens, at least one of them being a touch screen. It's kinda hard to make any other designs that wouldn't be bulky and/or stupid that are within their ideal price point.

Some of the mock-ups looked better though, but again, would be expensive in large part because of their major changes - the hinge.

Can anybody let me borrow a facepalm?

Will that suffice?

I'm not sure what I think about this information. Before I form any opinions, I'm going to wait and see what nintendo shows us at E3. Honestly, If this is the final design for the 3ds, I am dissappointed in the color. I really don't want another white handheld. I traded in my white DS Lite as soon as the new colors were available.

This is total BS. If Nintendo shows this for E3, I will be displeased.

To make it look real.

Yeah, me too. I hope they show something better...but there should be an analog stick.

If Nintendo presents this at E3... Well at least I get to know that I'll save money by not buying another handheld.

It's a mockup made by some neogaf member. Figured that out after some extensive research.
Here's the neogaf thread.
