Swapnote™ gives Nintendo 3DS owners the chance to send 3D messages to their friends via the SpotPass™ and StreetPass features. Users can hand-write messages in 3D and also include picture and sound. Available for free download in December.

We finally get what may of us were waiting for. I'm pretty happy with this, and can't wait for it to come out. What about you?

To be honest, Swapnote is better than what I've been expecting.

Although I find that there's no need to make a separate topic.

This is actually a big deal in my opinion. We really needed this for some time now. Now I can directly link this topic to my friends too instead of making them search around another topic.

Well I assume that maybe tomorrow the press conference topic will not be in the recent activity
and this was a big announcement that everyone's happy about.

Especially me, I will be sending many pictures to my friends :P

So there was already a topic about this? I searched before posting and didn't come up with anything...

So Nintendo Letter Box and Swapnote are exactly the same?
Yep, the program will be known as Nintendo Letter Box in european systems and Swapnote in american systems.

It's here. But it's okay. That thread isn't focusing on Swapnote anyway. :P

It's about time it has this feature, and I'm surprised how Nintendo impresses me with it.

So i'm gonna be assuming that this is passive messaging, at the very least, in that you'll need to Spotpass any messages your friends send you?

It sounds awesome in theory, but will probably be too novel an idea for it to be entirely usable for, say, organizing online play sessions. Still, it's pretty sweet. 3D content sharing will be quite good, i think, and it's exclusive on this little baby. :)

Question is, will we be able to use it while playing games? Probably not. Will be nice nontheless though.
It's an app, so no. But it utilizes SpotPass, hence you can receive your message anytime as long you have an Internet connection. It will also likely appear in the notifications.

so i can street pass sick stuff :O

... That why we can't have good things.

To bad you can't multitask it...

Now we "need" to get some in-game voice/text chat.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy as it is.

Tbh, if all this stuff was with the 3DS to begin with, the 3DS would be booming much more than now.

Forgot to say, Swapnote is a much better name. :P

Amen to that!
Nintendo letter...ew
well as long as a friend listens to the notification, it shouldn't be too hard organizing a match
and if they don't want to play with someone while playing a game, they can turn the wireless off....OHHHHH
I get why the wireless was disabled during Starfox, and OoT. It's for apps like this, so you don't get interuptted!

I don't understand the point of a messaging service, when about ten people on the planet own a 3DS.
I don't understand the point of saying things that are completely false to support fanboy hate points.

When I had a 3DS I had like a dozen friends. I would have welcomed a messaging system and will again when I repurchase.

Edit: Seriously, I don't get it. You. Always you. You deliberately seek out 3DS related threads and spew bullshit into them. You don't like the console? Then don't play it and stop being mad that other people do. There's plenty of other things you can be doing.

Was he serious? I can't tell anymore...

Anyway, we are set in November. ^_^
