Well it's more like buying a hacked console and being worried that one day you won't be able to play the new games, there is never really a hacked console that has been guaranteed future proof,

now that system updates are around, gone are the days of hacked = hacked now days it's more of a .....hacked = hacked ATM but can we keep up with getting past the roadblocks?

Hey everyone. I'm sure I'm about to ask about stuff that you guys are sick of hearing asked, much less answering. I just wanted to try and get a clearer picture of what's going on with 3ds flash carts. First of all, is it true that none of the flash carts are capable of working on firmware outside of 4.1-4.5? That seems to be what I keep reading everywhere but at the same time, the R4i 3DS Gold claims to work on 7.1.0-16. Is this only the case if you started out at 4.1-4.5 and updated the cart alongside the console? Also, is there is a distinction between carts that can play only NDS games on the 3DS and others that can play 3DS games on the 3DS?

If I've already updated my 3DS, would be safe to simply assume no flash cart would work for me and my only option would be to find a 4.1-4.5 FW one?

7.1.0 is emuNAND feature, you can do it with special instructions after installing CFW. You should find only 4.1-4.5 fw console.

Your assumption is correct, if you are above 4.5 No Go, Anycard with EmuNAND function can run 7.1.0.16, To get access to latest Firmware, you are Emulating the SysNAND by running it from an SD Card, you are making an image of your 4.1-4.5 NAND, installing it to an SD card and then booting to it and then updating that one, SysNAND cannot be updated above 4.5 as the kernelmode exploit was patched in 5.0, their is a definate distinction between the Carts, the DS cart used to install the mset haxx can also be used to play DS games, while the 3DS cart is exclusively for playing 3DS games

On a side note Obviously 3DS XL's dont sell well here in NZ, basically all on the shelf anywhere besides the newer bundles still have 4.4
