maybe we don't need it for exploits anymore ;)

(I know this could be done with a ds flashcard, but some people on the 3DSdev channel are saying this is legit)
Decapping the 3DS CPU could still stand to learn a lot about how the system works.
With that it becomes easily to develop for the 3DS without an official toolchain, or exploit the 3DS even more so.

Also great to see the cause get another $100 to its name.

Ok, to any staff who can post on the front page, please can you at least mention this fundraiser on the front page? The progress of this fundraiser has slowed down considerably and this project can be a big help for the 3DS scene but at the moment it seems like people are not interested or many people just do not know about this project. I am hoping it is the latter as this has lots of potential and a front page post would be big publicity.

I think this has already been front paged.

I'd agree with a frontpage, but it's not likely to happen. Pretty much advertising funding piracy is what a lot of people will see it as unfortunately.

True. I hate it that hacking is automatically related to piracy in most peoples heads. I on the other hand want it just for homebrew and region unlocking. I have a few games from Japan that are still unplayed and I don't have enough money for a Japanese 3DS. Good thing I am patient!

So... This whole topic is now moot? If it's already been decapped, and confirmed by Neimod, then surely there is no reason to start another decap when we can just buy the documents from the already done decap?

Wow, yeah now it seems like all this is for nothing....

Out of interest (I hadn't donated yet anyway) what happens to all the money?

That's not Neimod speaking (he's just the subject -- and its dated 6 days after the fundraiser start date).

Also, the $200 quote is a teaser for a single layer, not the 5 or so needed for the complete analysis.

It won't happen because the gbatemp staff thinks gbatemp shouldn't be a place random people can take advantage of to gain publicity for their own projects.

This will most likely not happen as such a front page topic could be seen as the staff's approval of this fundraiser and in the event that something goes wrong people could start holding GBAtemp responsible for it.

(Note - I am a former staff member and I do not represent GBAtemp or any of its current staff with this statement of mine.)

Yeah, it was only a request. I didn't expect it to happen as problems such as the one you just mentioned were bound to pop up at some point.

Might be able to donate one of my youtube checks to this after I finish paying off the japan 3ds and the games I bought.

To anybody still wondering also, the 3DS has NOT been fully decapped, there's only the first layer available for $200

Hi, About the fundrising, the chip as already been decaping by www.chipworks.com. (search for nintendo on store) They sell the layer photo and analysis report 200 USD. Regards
They only sell the first layer, this is not enough for a full analysis.

That's just a single chip and has been available since March 2011. Definitely not as thorough as what they are trying to do here.

*Oh wait, that's the SoC.. Wondering what they are aiming for with the fundraiser then.

I think that's just one layer or something, and there are more that this fundraiser aims to decap.
